Legally, what you are wanting to do was never acceptable. In Windows XP (and Office) they are now enforcing that through its WPA (Windows Product Activation).

I am not saying its not "possible" but that would be illegal!!

FWIW: I think it one should be allowed to install XP on at least (1) desktop and (1) laptop, legally. Since most people that have both rarely use both at the same time.

Yes you can. It's called the corporate copy, and you'll get a minimum of 5 licenses. 😉

If you have the money to have 5 computers with good enough hardware to run XP why not do the right thing and pay for the hardware??? What if you had to work for free??? If you don't want to pay for the OS there are free alternatives out there.

I think when Microsoft gets to that lovely part of the installation when it requires you to log your stuff in (isn't that wonderful, an OS that requires internet access?) it will tell you that code has already been used, and stop the installation and leave you with a formatted machine with a half installed OS on it.

Bottom line - MS decides for you that you need to give them a $1000 payday when you want to upgrade 🙂.

Since when does XP require internet access??? You don't have to activate over the internet. Stop spreading FUD, you have absolutely no idea what you're even talking about.

you think you should be able to do that... thats fine, but microsoft is not selling you any software, you didnt not buy the software, you prolly couldnt afford it.... all your paying for is a license to USE their software the way they say you can use it.

Depends on if the AT'er is asking to do something that's illegal or not. 😉

Knicknut3 answered your question in his first paragraph.

When you get to your 2nd install, XP will require you to 'activate' within 30 days. When you try to activate the 2nd machine, it will tell you that your product key code has already been activated on another machine. At that point, your 2nd installation of XP will be unusable.
