Damn, I wish I was home to take a picture of the tree we got over Thanksgiving, but I can describe it. 14 foot Fraser Fir, with 1500 lights, and countless ornaments. It truley is a spectacle. I love to read by it during the holiday break. It smells great and gives a sense of peace.

That sounds incredible :D

I can't imagine how much that tree must have cost:eek:

Screw the tree, where'd you get all that burled wood? Is it solid, veneer, faux finish or what? Amazing!

That's what I was thinking. That woodwork and furniture is beautiful!!

The woodwork is mostly just Maple mouldings and Birch plywood (veneer core) sheets. It is finished in a glazing technique that my painter helped me with, finished off with rubbed effect lacquer.

I will scoot downstairs later with my nicer camera, see if I can sneak you guys off some better shots.

The table we just found at the local furniture store, we liked it, and it was a pretty close match for the glazing work that we had already done.

We have a Christmas fig tree :) . Another slightly closer shot. We have a 14 foot vaulted ceiling and we used to bring in 9 to 12 foot trees and dress them up and down in lights and bulbs like there's no tomorrow - but that got be a pain after a while, so we figured we would just use the fig tree that we have sitting near there. The fig tree is 9 feet tall from the bottom of the potter to the top anyhow, so it's fairly big. I'll take another picture when it's dark out so you can see it better.

This year, I think I'm a little interested in doing all this tree, lighting stuff....for xmas.
it would be a nice thing to do for my gf who arrives on 25th..........i'm gonna see her after almost a month.

where do I go to buy all this stuff and how do i go about the decor?.........I've never really bought a xmas tree and decor stuff before........(never did this from where I come)

I live in an apt. complex and I guess i'm looking at a tree between 4-6 feet.........and then all the decor stuff...
I don't mean to sound cheap but do we get anything at the dollar store?........coz i am moving in 2 months and I'm so sick of lugging my stuff everywhere....( my 6th move in 5 years in this country). If not, I guess I should try places like walmart or kmart....yes?

we had big big layoffs where I work and the overall mood is just so depressing and the fricken snoww and lack of sunlight isn't helping either.....

I just feel like I need to do something out of the ordinary to get over this....

thanks everyone...
