She did get a bit of money, a couple free trips, and a spot in a few trimspa commercials out of it.
This is a photo I took of a friend of at the Exploratorium in San Francisco. He's trying on these glasses that shift your vision a couple of inches to the side. It was part of an an exhibit that showed how our brains can compensate for changes in how we see.
I especially like it because it became a major element in a book cover I designed for The War of the Worlds.

I'll give you a few tips to meeting girls you big geeks,
1. Always look them in the eye, never look away when they put their eyes on you, never. Because the second you do, it's OVER - they already think you're a coward, well you know what I mean.
2. Smile. Regardless of how big or small it is, if you keep it nice and steady, you will always be "ready."
3. When you like someone, think about them for a brief second, and then yourself and how happy you'd be meeting them (not being with them, you can't predict the future!), and then forget yourself but keep your manners, and then go at it, go talk to them, nervous or not, it's a goal in the mind you've just written down at the back of your head. Don't lie to yourself, you will regret it. (edit): or else you'll regret it!
4. Last but not least, rejection doesn't mean you're going to die. Keep your cool, and never be a fool. An experience learned is an experience to grow from.
