I was on the bus today and this ghetto 40+ woman sat down next to a college girl and just started talking to her. There was only 2 other people on the bus, some high school kid and me. After talking for like 30 seconds, this gem pops up:

"Why do you white people think that spontaneous is a good thing? We have plenty of spontaneous guys where I'm from. One day you wake up and they're gone, never to be seen or pay child support again. You want some of that, by all means, come take those assholes off our hands."

Anyone else love public transportation because of things like this?

Not really. Talking to people when alcohol isn't involved for either party isn't my cup o' gin.

:D Get off the alcohol crutch, it's only hurting you in the long run.

I was on a bus in austin, this hippie dude with an afro, a tie-dyed shirt, and a leather jacket with fringes all over the place, sat down next to me, cocked his head off to the side and said "do you ever get the feeling that aliens have infiltrated the highest echelons of our government?"

so i thought about it for a second, said "no...not really"

and he just shut up and turned his head away from me and stared at the back of the bus for the rest of the time i was on there

kinda lol

LMAO.

I've never used public transportation in a large city, but I'm sure you can meet some pretty interesting characters. :p

This probably happened to me about 50 times back in 2001-02 (when I used public transportation): you are on a bus that has twice more people than it can seat; you are hanging on to the stirrup-thingy and desperately trying to keep from falling over (although being packed like sardines in a can does help prevent that) as the lunatic driver unleashes hell on the road when the stranger next to you grabs your wrist, turns it over, looks at your watch, mutters "Shit, I'm running late" and has an anxious look on his face and then gives you a cursory nod, thanking you for telling him the time.

India is weird.

It was on a train ride to visit a friend a few hundred miles away. Sitting there minding my own business when a rather disheveled looking gentleman with a beer in each hand sat down next to me. We got to talking and it turns out hes in the used tire business and he also has diabetes. Well I guess he had been robbed a couple times in the past and he was sick of it, next person to try anything funny he was going to take one of his insulin syringes filled with air and stab it into their neck. The ride was rather uncomfortable the rest of the way.

It's fun when you have topic summary about someone who is "semi-racist" and you start your story describing a stereotypical black woman as "ghetto".

Your ignorance is our gain. Don't you love public internet forums because of things like this?

Kettle calling the pot black? Nowhere in the post did OP mention the lady as being black. They simple said "ghetto 40+ woman" If you somehow read into that and made up your mind that she was black, who's ignorant here? ;)

For the record I live in the "ghetto" and there are plenty of non black people here. If somebody said "a ghetto person [insert story]" to me I would never assume they're black if it wasn't said.

In Hawaii...it's the homeless...especially on the last "circle-island"bus of the night...buy the time it circles the islands and comes back to the station, the next day of bus service has already begun. That bus is a stinky one.

And the bus drivers driving over mountain passes with their sun glasses on at night, or playing their Nintendo DS or PSP http://the.honoluluadvertiser....n/hawaii811230364.html

Hey, thanks for sticking up for me man.

Oh and Sampson: She was Puerto Rican. I'm just assuming by the bag she had with the Puerto Rican flag on it. And I really love the internet forums because of things like this ;)

I'm reasonably sure that if I said some ghetto Puerto Rican woman, someone (probably you) would've mentioned how I hate Puerto Ricans. But w/e

I sat next to a man from White Fish, Montana who had been to Antarctica while serving in the Navy. On leave in New Zealand he was involved in a motorcycle "wrick," as the locals would say (those last six words were repeated throughout his telling of the story) and got severe brain damage, which was evident in his slurred speech and slow movement. He went on and on telling me his life story until eventually I just started reading a book while he babbled on.

Later in the trip I was surrounded by a bunch of hippies who started playing guitar, singing, and doing spoken word. In the middle of the fucking train.

My first time on Amtrak. Probably my last.

I was on a public bus in downtown seattle. My friends and I were looking to go to some Art Museum for school. On the bus some random gangsta sounding guy started talking to one of my friends. He talked about how you don't want to go to this part of town etc.

Then after some talk he pulls a bullet for an AK-47 out of his pocket and tells us about where it hit him.

double owned, maaaan this has all the makings to be a classic ownage thread, I hope it doesn't go unnoticed. Ownage like this needs to be remembered, while this isn't owange of the year material. It's sure one of the best in recent memory.

she was Puerto Rican ha ha ha, it couldn't have gone any better.

OWNED.

it was a pretty damn good own.

I'd nominate for ownage of the year award. *snapshot*

I had a homeless guy in boston randomly call me a lovely human for eating strawberry icecream

I didn't care, the ice cream place (columbo?) in quincy market is good stuff.

I was working on the side of the road once, and some fat black woman drove by and called me a beloved patriot bitch. Is that racist? :^D

I used greyhound once to get across the country. There was a guy that snuck a bag of alcohol in.. beers, whiskey..
He got wasted and spilled his empty containers on the floor. Every time we braked the bottles would roll to the front of the bus. It was hilarious. Nobody said anything to him.

The driver talked some shit but also did nothing.

Well, at least he didn't steal your watch.

When I was in Rome, riding the packed subway, I saw a quick movement as someone dashed out the door at a stop (didn't even get a look at the person). The man at the door had been hanging onto the bar with both hands for stability. All of a sudden, he grabs at his pockets on his cargo shorts and a wave of terror breaks over him. "What the fuck?! How?" Yep, pickpocketed by a pro.
________________________________

I actually don't have any fun stories about transit, just weird/awkward ones.

One time in Vancouver, I was sitting two seats away from a young black man dressed in faux army pants, combat shirt and boots, and dreadlocks. He had huge headphones on and was listening to hardcore punk music (I think) at full volume.

Every so often, he would yell out something (dunno if it was a song lyric) such as "Fuck the white people", "The system fucks us over", "Motherfucking white fascists", etc. I seem to recall some misogynistic expressions too. I think he was schizophrenic.

The whole bus was silent as we were so shocked. One guy tapped him on the shoulder to ask him to turn down the volume a bit, and he took off his headphones and just flipped out. "Fuck you man, I'm already fucking deaf and brain damaged and I'll listen to my music however the fuck I want to".

The guy shut up, and the black guy went back to his random shouting. When he got off the bus a few minutes later, a lady finally spoke up. "Fuck you you racist piece of shit. Get out of here." He walked off.

Seriously, I wonder why the driver didn't stop to kick this guy off earlier. The one guy who confronted him (and not even about his racism) was pretty brave, as I could easily have imagined this guy pulling a knife or something. Totally unpredictable.
