So today I noticed that I was at post 5999...for that one I posted a funny in off topic about old timey diner lingo...I'd tell you to use the search to go find it but as we all know it sucks massive donkey balls. I wish someone would take the little bit of time and effort to fix the god forsaken thing but I guess we're not worth that much anymore.
I wanted to take #6000 and look back at all the memorable times I've had here and to thank you for giving me my drive and passion for technology that I have today. so on that note, lets take a trip down memory lane shall we,
My first post, whelp I can't say much about it as I don't remember it...sorry, it's long lost I'm sure gone in the mismanagement of the forums database over the years, thanks zuni, I know you tried hard but at time I don't think you knew what you were doing...I'm sure it was either a question about DC or mentioning that ViRGE pointed me to this place.
I'm sorry we weren't better friends ViRGE but I was a really weird kid in real life so I understand. Hell I was a really weird kid on the forums
. I'm six weeks shy of 7 years on the forums, many of you have been here much much longer than I...but I did make the top 10 in an off-topic post about it until they stopped keeping track
. To be exact on 1/11/2007
I had been here 6 years, 10 months, 17 days including the end date
Alternative time units
2512 days can be converted to one of these units:
* 217,036,800 seconds
* 3,617,280 minutes
* 60,288 hours
* 358 weeks (rounded down)
granted I didn't post that much considering having spent over 217 million seconds here...I average about 2 a day post wise. just for stats sake
.
for those who like stats (and if your in the DC forums I know you do!) the same calculations except including today's date...
6 years, 10 months, 24 days including the end date
2519 days can be converted to one of these units:
* 217,641,600 seconds
* 3,627,360 minutes
* 60,456 hours
* 359 weeks (rounded down)
as I said before way to fvcking long...
So I got side tracked, back on course, by my calculations I joined when I was 14 years, 8 months, 29 days old...That makes me 21 years, 7 months, 21 days old today...Ok I think I'm having too much fun with that calculator.
to be continued when I wake up LOL
stories of Lord Demios (LD), Dmcowen, Russ, Dennilfloss, Engineer, Ray (you crazy old geezer) and more to come...
...Continued
So, I've been gone a few days from this post, really I ran out of things to say I have a lot on my mind so i figured I'd just start at the top of the list and work my way down. These are in no particular order and absolutely not in chronological order...So lets see, some things I remember a little about, I remember trying to start the AnandTech Store, in fact I still have the domain for that (atechstore.com) so if that ever gets off the ground we'll know where it will be LOL and I remember working with (and meeting) tripleshot to work on it with, he was a great guy, shame we don't see him much any more.
I remember TheGameBox.org and .net playing with Mechbgon and Wellcky (who can both totally sk00l my 4ZZ at the original UT) and working on those until I got in so much trouble with LD that he's never talked to me again other than a heated exchange some years ago. I hope all is forgiven LD I was young and stupid...well that hasn't changed much...but yeah...moving on.
DMcOwen, this is a chapter I wish had never happened, most of us who have been here for very long remember the DMcOwen saga and the absolute outpouring of support that this community gave him in what we can all agree was a grandiose waste of Georgia tax payer money and government time to prosecute a man for installing a harmless (and although I hate to admit the distributed.net client was probably one of the best written at the time) DC project on a hard drive image and then trying to charge him a ridiculous amount for bandwidth fee's, I wish it had worked out better for McOwen in the end, I thought the plea bargain was a joke but it did get everything behind us, and that was nice. I'm sorry I haven't kept up with you McOwen, but I hope brighter days were in your future after that.
After that the community just wasn't quite the same but we trudged on.
Then our beloved dennilfloss threw us for a loop, that was truly a shame and left many feeling betrayed, I don't want to fester in a sore spot for many so I will make this section rather brief. I remember backing dennilfloss up until he told me not to, I was shocked and hurt not by what he had done, to be honest I didn't interact with nowheremom but the fact that he would take so much time and effort the deceive the forums in such an elaborate manner was truly shocking. I remember reading the explanation thread dennilfloss posted explaining his action and understanding that it was a situation that had gotten carried away, if it's any consolation I've forgiven you long ago dennilfloss, but it was a memorable event in my forum history. That being said I also remember the team building and comradery that dennil brought to the table.
Russ,
Russ is just misunderstood
, not really, I remember Russ' crack rack, the mini-teams and the competition, who can forget the borg and the federation battling it out within our team to move the teams stats to new heights. I had the pleasure of meeting Russ and buying a motherboard from his little computer shop and talking to what at the time I considered to be a "forum great." by the way Russ, the motherboard you sold me...it's still workin...
Ray,
For fear of getting beat over the head with a cane until I am a bloody pulp I will tread lightly, Ray, your daughter is/was hawt. The first time I saw her...I had an e-crush instantly...time have changed and I've moved on realizing our iLove could never be...ok now that you're hopefully off the floor after busting a gut it's time to be more serious. Ray you always were a reliable backbone on these forums for me, you play an old geezer rather well, so well in fact that for a long while you truly were a grandpa to me, I know it is probably really corny to say but that is how I felt about this place for a time, you were all a part of my family, while others my age were drinkin, smokin, fvckin I was here geeking out in my own little chunk of the internet. Thank you for being here.
Engineer,
You're bloody smart...basically everything I said to ray except for the daughter thing applies to you.
Networkman, Assimilator1,
I remember you...
Just kidding, you guys are great too, you've always been here when anyone has needed anything. I haven't said much about you because honestly there is nothing to say, you guys leave us speechless...
Paulson,
I don't know if you even read the forums anymore, but I remember hating your e-guts, that being said, you grew on all of us. I remember you being a ratty little trouble maker that was the butt of more jokes then I can remember, you and your little friend hubbs (who can also totally sk00l my 4zz @ UT) I remember when you got Elite Member and I got so pissed I bitched about it in a thread and a few days later I was an Elite Member...I think the mods felt sorry for me . That's right I bitched and got Elite . those were the days.
To bottom this post off, I've grown up here, been lost along the way, but there has always been something special here, YOU. We may grow apart and back together, but for a moment in time, an instant you are here, and that is what counts.
