I was considering the SN26P V1 but I honestly don?t think I need that much machine. I do some number crunching every now and then but it?s just a bit much $ to upgrade everything like new video and the works. Second, I looked at the SN25-P1-BK-V1 which appears to be a step below the SN26P V1 but it?s basically the same boat as the former, though not AS taxing on the wallet. Finally, I?ve started looking at the SN95G5V3 which isn?t as large of an upgrade BUT would allow me to carry over many of my existing parts to minimize expenditure. It gets me the silent X PSU (no, my SN45G doesn?t have one) SATA, Gbit lan, I keep my ram and video and I step up to Athlon 64. I just haven?t decided if it?s worth it to make that swap, plus if I do take the plunge, I haven?t decided if the dual core is worth it or not.

Please inform someone that is completely out of the loop on the newer gear.

For those that are wondering the specs on my SN45G, they are here:

Edit: And the bulk of my use on this machine is email and internet plus an occasional game of Total Annihilation so NO, I really don?t NEED to upgrade. That?s the main reason I?m having a hard time justifying the expenditure.

if what you have now suits you well, then why upgrade at all? dual core would be a little overkill for email and internet :p

There's your answer. Now, "want" is IMO a reasonable justification for buying something, so it's up to you and your budget. I'd say for now just set that money aside (earmark it, put it in a separate account, put it in a CD, whatever) and just keep using what you have until something in it breaks or you get new software that runs slow on it. In the meantime on occasion add a few bucks to the money you set aside. When time comes to replace the system you can get something nice.
