Possibly stupid Vista question

Just making sure I have this straight...

If I order this, I am essentially paying $100 dollars for Home Premium, correct? It says it comes with a "free upgrade coupon", but it almost seems too good to be true, although I've heard ramblings about doing this sort of thing before.

Thanks for the help.

I'm not saying you're wrong, but it says Home Basic OR Home Premium. Am I just not reading the fine print?

Ah, I see, have any idea how much that price is?

Thanks for the quick response.

Ah, cool. I didn't think to check Newegg for some reason. Thanks for the help, I'll probably go with that.

EDIT:Well, I have XP, but let's just say it wasn't acquired at a store...

The main reason for that is because I built this PC for Vista/DX10, so I didn't see the point of going out and buying XP when I was just going to get Vista a few months later anyway.

Just a little info. If you buy a RETAIL version of XP Home, you can get an upgrade to Vista Basic for free.($10 shipping). But no option to upgrade that to Vista Home Premium. Details at this website.
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/techguarantee/northamerica.mspx

The $49 charge is to upgrade from an OEM version of XP Home, which also applies to systems that come with XP Home installed.

So the cheapest way to get Vista Home Basic was to buy a retail XP Home upgrade when it was on sale for $40 at CompUSA, or for $30 at Office Depot. And maybe some stores will have similar sales, although once Vista is on their shelves I kinda doubt it.

Since you want Vista Home Premium, this isn't pertinent to you, but others might be looking for the absolute cheapest way to get Vista.

Wait a minute... How exactly does this tech guarantee work? I have a retail version of XP pro upgrade that I purchased in 2001. I assume this will not work since my XP is so old.
