Possibly more CC problems: Overseas Charges

I got $1486 tried to be charged to my MBNA CC from an outside of the US company. It was either Walk about mobile or walk and talk mobile. Luckily MBNA would not accept the charge. Regardless here are the sites I know I have used the card on and I will post all I can find in my statements later.

Mainly used for:
PayPal
Also:
Ebay
Half
and at one time Buy.com

I am not saying any of these is the company and I will post the full list when I get home.

I got two charges for $9.95 from DSPAY.COM Seoul, Korea this month on my Shell Mastercard, which of course I am disputing. This fraud is getting out of hand.

1. Make one credit card only for online purchases.
2. Limit the card to 1,500-2,000 or insure it.
3. Do not ever use it on auctions, in fact do not ever buy anything on auctions unless they are secured like Amazon.
4. Do not ever give your card information to unknown businesses.
5. Do not ever use it outside of US unless in reputable banks, use travellers checks or Amex.
6. Do not ever use it in convenience stores and small unknown stores and gas stations, use cash.

If you follow these rules you will sharply reduce your exposure to crooks but you could still be fried.
I think you broke the rule # 3.

cc usage over net is not as safe as merchant like to make it sound
but hey you pay for the convenience and security risks

seems like a lot of these are coming from a handful of merchants...as stated also in other "i've been ripped" posts.
i'd be wary of any of these...at least for the next few weeks.
use a 'virtual' number guys..

Gee stevejst,WHY even get a credit card?I have a Chase Platinum and an American Express.I have never had any trouble putting a charge in dispute.I do check my charges against my statements! If you use a card, use your brain!

I agree with jeepers94, use of the brain is a must! ;-)

Credit Cards are very convinient and instead of using personal check or money order to pay for an auction I'd rather use Credit Card. If something goes wrong, I can always dispute the charge and if the charge wasn't authorized by me, I won't be responsible.

That is right. It might be a pain to get a new card and re-memorize the number, but as long as you're not liable for the charges, it's not that big of a deal. I got a call from CapitalOne letting me know that my VISA I haven't used in a long time had it's number stolen. They verified some charges with me and issued me a new card.

WOOOO... I am not stupid fools. i didnot pay for auctions with it. It is on ebay for the purpose of paying my monthly charges ie i did give the number to someone else just ebay. Secondly these are all big named stores and i am sure the majority of people here have used them all at sometime. I just posted this to let you know in case you may want to check your cards so chill with the flames. I will post all my online purchase places today.

damn man, i dont think anybodys flaming you here. Everyones just giving you advice and their experiences with credit cards. A more appropriate flame would be something like..."Is this a hot deal? Wheres the hot deal? Shouldnt this be in OT?! Am i in OT?"

anyway,

you dont have to use your credit card online for ppl to get your number. They can look through your trash, somehow got your social security number, hacked into your computer.... etc. Nobody can really stop these ppl, the only thing we can do is be careful about where we spend, and who we give out private info to. Signing up for that best buy credit card? Better make sure that employee doesnt take all your private info, make a fake id and ruin your credit!
