Howdy,

Looking for help here. Attached is a couple of pictures of a partial hole that is in on of my 470's that got there by a small drill bit (don't ask..lol). This does not go all the way through.

I am wondering if this board is done for or if I should even risk putting in back in the computer if there is a possibility it could damage the motherboard. If anyone who has the expertise to shed some light on this I would appreciate it.

Hard to tell from such fuzzy pictures, but it doesnt look like you hit any trace lines. Put the cooler back on and plug it in. Worst case it wont work...theres no risk to your computer.

Not sure if that is a faint trace line or just image noise, if it is a line you can try a conductive pen on it.

Thanks for the help. Amazingly enough it works just fine when I tried it this evening.

How is that possible? He definitely severed two trails from the pics.

clearly those traces run deeper in the PCB than the drill bit penetrated, or else those traces would be broken and the card wouldn't work, or at the very least malfunction...he got pretty lucky though, that's for sure...
