Went to two Wal-marts (Roeland Park and I-35 & 75th access road) and one Wal-mart Supercenter (Shawnee Mission Pkwy) last night in the greater Kansas City Area- none anywhere to be found. Will not go out of my way to check the other Wal-marts or Supercenters since it appears to be only one or two locations nationwide that might have this. They didn't even have the Teon 24X CDRs marked down to $3 yet - they're still either $9 or $10... If I happen to be in the neighborhood, I'll check the other Wally Worlds and Supercenters and post the results here - if some other KC people don't post before I do.

I don't know what's making me drool more...the price on the DVD Writer or the 6.00 % Sales Tax! It's back up to 8.25% where I live!

Nice picture by the way...the receipt and the box. Kinda says "screw you, here's all of the proof you guys need!" :)

I personally will give you $ 20 if you scan me your REAL receipt

if you are lying, stop that BS or you will get your ass burned or something soon.

well i'll be damned - didn't believe the little focker

I would not get so excited yet. That last receipt scan has a manual override (D05 on the receipt) for the price so either AnonymousCoward
is an employee of Wal-Mart and is ripping them off, or he caught the tail end of a Walmart employee scam. IMO the first receipt scan from last night was a legit sale and that person was just lucky. This last receipt has some foul play involved by someone.

Edited to reflect correct member - Sorry VAG

He said in his original post that the manager had to do a manual override to get that price. No foul play, just a nice manager.

I think the person could have scanned the DVD-R when he bought it because it wasn't coming up on their computers, as he said

I dunno pure speculation on my part

His first post explained that they couldn't find it in the system. Wouldn't that explain the price override? It seems that the price was fairly arbitrary, and any manager that had a clue would probably said several hundred at least.

None at the Tempe Walmart, BTW. Anyone else check out the Arizona stores?

I bet the manager just thought it was a regular DVD-ROM drive and that's why the price he stated was so low. Doesn't seem like a hot deal... someone just got lucky. VERY lucky :p

Well if there was any chance of anyone still getting in on this deal, I think this puts an end to it. "Do you have any of those units that are mismarked to be $400 less than they should be?"

That's possible, but the manager would not create a bogus description for the product in the computer (DVDDDD) since the front management would need to reconcile the sale at the end of the day and would have no clue what items DVDDDD referrs.

i didnt say that, lol. the guy knew exactly what i was talking about. he just said that philips sent WalMart the DVD+RW instead of the CD+RW by mistake, and walmart sold them as CDRW.

The tricky part is finding the stores that got the DVD+RW drives sent from the distribution center instead of the CDRW.

To clarify the "DVDDDD".

The layaway lady was given the task of informing the cashier what the price was (from the group of three. Manager, Inventory lady & layaway lady)

She asked if I wanted to check out up front or at electronics.

Electronics had about 4 people in line and I didn't want to run the risk of having it snatched away so I chose up front.

An older guy was doing the checkout and he asked what he should enter. The lady stated DVDRW, but he entered DVD (pause..... like he was confused about finding R or something) DDD and stated "I just entered DVDDDD".

I paid and ran.

<< Skeegs is correct about the UPC belonging to Philips...the infamous Philips 8X CD burner is 037849894668; the first 6 digits are identical to this DVD writer. >>

To let all of you guys know, here is algorithm for UPC A-xxxxx-yyyyy-Z

A, not sure what that is for... I was told "future use"
the x's are the manufacturer's number
the y's are the part number from manufacturerer
Z is the check digit

so all of Philip's product's will begin with A-xxxxx, but the rest will be different. I hope this clears things up for all of you :)
