I just checked the two SuperWalmarts near me, one did not have any and the other guy told me to call back later giving me this line,
"I am not normally here, but the other person will be back later, she is currently out to lunch, so call back later and ask her.

Hehehehe, it is currently 1:20AM here, would this be a really late lunch or a really early lunch:D:D:DHEHEHEH

back from WallyWerld. My efforts yield me nothing. I am left w/ 1 hour less sleep. However, I think that it was worth the trip, just to see...and booooooooooooooy did my eyes get big when I saw the Phillips CDRs down there on the bottom. I scoured the ENTIRE section...ALL ELECTRONICS. I probably looked like some sort of conspiracy theory freak lookin' behind EVERY SINGLE box to see what was in there. :)

To no avail. Ahh well...

God Bless

I dashed to the 24 Hour Wal-Mart on Union City after like the 6th post after I called them to inquire about the product. The lady started talking about the DVD Players and didn't have a f**king clue as to what the f**k I was talking about. So when I got there one of the CSR started babbling about walmart.com and whatnot. Searched around...didn't find sh!t. Oh well..I had some Sunday fun for once.

Nothing at the super stores here either. They said they hadnt seen dvd anything for pc much less dvd rw.I did pick up a cordless phone on closeout for 15 to replace my vtech that has no life in it after one year of use.Maybe that will work out but but I saved the reciept in case its junk since you often get what you pay for.

Maybe this whole "deal" is just a ploy by Wal-Mart to get us in the stores since it seems that everyone who went is buying something. ;)

I dunno... but I think most of the Walmarts don't even carry this.. it's not even in their system. I called a few stores myself and I know* they're not lying about not carrying any DVDBurners. It's probly just that one store and maybe a few others in that area. So ppl around that area I say give it a shot..

well - some lucky bastard in atlanta got one of these

got to wal-mart around 730am...looked around & couldn't find it...asked the electronics guy...he said "yeah, we had one of those but somebody bought it last night"...he said it was a dvd burner & it was around $100

i had him look it up in the computer with the UPC...no store in the atlanta metro area has any in stock

<< ok, here's an update...

i just called the walmart in greensburg, IN that the receipt was originally scanned from (812-663-3434)

talked with the night manager there and asked him to confirm the UPC# for the DVD burner (003784991837)

after waiting for a bit, he came back and told me that: 1) YES, they do have it in the computers and 2) YES it is for the price that the scanned receipt shows ($84.96)

BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

he said that this was a NON-RESTOCKABLE ITEM, which meant that it was a one-time deal from the walmart warehouses...he said that after the original shipment of dvd burners are sold, they will not be restocking them again...then he went on to talk about how walmart tests different items from different manufactors and yadda yadda yadda...basically, if ur LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET UR HANDS ON ONE then BUY IT....cause after there all sold, t-ttt-tt-that's all folks!

oh and by the way, i also got another friend of mine in san antonio, tx to go to a superwalmart and he said they didn't have any as well....

sigh... :(

EDIT: sorry, but no it wasn't in stock....all sold out there in greensburg!
>>

If this is the case, and they truly are "testing" this product, what good would it do to only send it to 1 or 2 stores in the country? I would believe it if they were going to START stocking it and only had a few in the initial shipment, but if you're doing a market test I think you need to have better market saturation than one unit on the top of a shelf in one store in Indiana.

Great potential on this one... althought the light seems to be fading. But ya know what would be JUST as nice as scoring one of these? If everyone who contacted/visited a Wal-Mart posted which location! :) I could probably go back to bed if I'd seen the local stores had been covered in St. Louis (I'm sure they were, but no postings, so gotta assume they weren't). lol Oh well, let ya know what I find, if anything-- Hopefully the Milk will still be on sale at least!

003784991837 is NOT a valid UPC code and fails the checksum digit. Also, the first 5 digits of the UPC designate the product manufacturer. In this case, 003784 is registered to DOW Chemical and not Philips. Yet another Walmart manager spurting BS. If anyone gets the real UPC for this drive, please post it and I will do a national inventory search:)

Tell ya'll what. I am a manager for Wal-Mart. When I go to work, I will decrypt that transaction code on the bottom of the receipt and see if this is bullsh!t or not.

What I find the most amusing about this thread is the fact that about 2 weeks ago i posted a wal-mart deal on 5.88 dvds and about 2000 people responded with how Sh1tty wal-mart was and they would never shop there.

now, a good deal comes along and the truth comes out..........

hahahaha
