lopri, with the right board and memory you can do 3GHz with that processor. That is one great stepping CABYE 0540FPBW. I have one in my Asus rig now and one brand new in the box not opened yet. Mucker is right they are gonna dry up the processors getting to the general public.

AMD64 Opteron 165 Dual Core 1.8GHZ@2.8GHZ
A64 148 Opteron 1.39V 265x11 @ 2914Mhz
A64 Opt 146 @ 3.0 (CABNE 0530APMW) w/ 1.47 volts

I would cite the above examples of why buy the FX line when you can spend a fraction of the cost, one reason AMD would like to restrict these processors from the general public.

OK I can't believe what I'm seeing... This is just.. ridiculous..

Went to CompUSA and bought a DFI NF4 SLI-D (couldn't wait, at least I had a $100 gift card) and fired up my Opteron 148 with two DDR333 rams. (left over from.. like 2 years ago) Everything at stock/auto, except the memory @DDR333 manual, chipset voltage 1.6V. Went right up to 250x11, no problem. 255x11.. NO PROBLEM. 260x11.... Like a breakfast! At 265x11 it failed Prime95 around 8 mins mark, so I backed down to 260x11 and started burning. All this at stock voltage 1.36V!!!!

This is real. Real time, too. (Check the screenshot, 2:30 AM) Folks, get them fast while last. I've got an FX57 setup for less then $450!

One more thing, I'm using 20-pin PSU (Antec True Control, also a left-over from my old Intel system) and it works great. So far my system consists of:

Opteron 148 @2860MHz (Stock voltage 1.36V)
DFI SLI-D
SAMSUNG DDR333 512MBx2
WD 1000JB
Geforce 6200 TC 32MB
Zalman 7000Cu
Antec TrueControl 550W
ASUS CD-Rom Drive

Welp, my Opteron 144 from Monarch that I ordered 6 days ago with 2-day shipping still hasn't shipped. In fact, my order status still says processing at the warehouse. No emails citing any delays, backorders, etc.

I swear, this is the last time I order from Monarch. First time, they ship three days late. Second time, they send me a board with an old BIOS that doesn't work with the chip bundled with it, and now they are days late again with an order of mine and haven't said a word. Worst etailer I've ever had experience with.

Dammit, I just ordered another retail sealed box 146 CABYE 0540 FPMW from Ebay about 15 minutes ago. Same stepping as my current one. Definitely checking into Opterononomous soon

By Thursday I will have a total of 3 Opty's on hand:

146 CABYE 0540 FPMW <---- in use 2900 MHz @ stock volts
146 CABYE 0540 FPMW <-----sealed box
146 CAB2E 0540 FPMW <-----the one I plan using, getting rid of the above 2

Yeah I've been hearing more and more complaints bout monarch.. I ordered a GTO from them and took a week to ship last month.. probably growing pains but still no excuse.

i always get retail. best to have the warranty and HSF just in case, y'know
as for best of the two... well, newegg has great shipping, but they seem to boost prices more and more lately. monarch has decent prices, but again, people have shipping problems.
I bought form zipzoomfly for $238 retail opteron 148 with free 2nd day shipping. can't beat that. I'll let you know what stepping I get when I install it. hopefully i don't get stuck with cabbage

i ordered my opty 144 last week from tiger and should be here, well toady i geuss it is now, tiger seems to be the only that will ship one of the mentioned discon imedately. i would have bought one from new but right befroe they stop selling them it went up 40 dollars, in one day no less. so you guys might want to check tigerdirect fo these chips

The delay on my 148 doesn't really bother me so much as long as I actually receive it in good condition and as long as it's a nice stepping.

It's funny. I ordered one of those Connect3D x800 GTO's in early November and it arrived in 2 days and 3 hours from when I placed the order and I'm about 900 miles away from Georgia. Then I ordered an Opteron 148 from them last Wednesday morning and I had to wait until Monday to receive an e-mail with my tracking number.

Now I just need to order a couple nick-nacks (case fans, HSF, fan controller, case thumb screws) and I'll be ready to build.

I ordered from Tiger on saturday, website showed them as in stock. I called monday and was told they have none.
