I have a friend who says she thinks she has a virus that won't let her boot her computer up.

Is there anything out there i can download and run from a floppy to scan and remove it?

I don't know about that but you could connect her hard drive to a working computer and scan it through it.

You could also use a bootable cdrom or diskette to format tha hard drive and reinstall the OS.

I know your topic description mentioned booting from a floppy, but here is an alternative:

Before going to the extreme of formatting and reinstalling the OS, try a bootable CD Anti-Virus disk.

Head over to www.ultimatebootcd.com, and scroll down to Antivirus Tools, it links to two choices.

had a lady call the other day..said a virus would not let her boot up her comp..asked her to check all her power connections ,etc. ..her cat had tripped her power strip..as always..ymmv 😉

Thats funny - back in college my wife - fiance at the time - was telling me that the cat couldn't possibly turn off my computer when i came back and found it off. While she was telling me this the cat walked behind the computer stand and stepped on power strip and off it went 🙂

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread.
