I have an HDMI port on my mobo and it would rock if I could use it to connect my PC to the TV while using my 2600XT's processor to drive the video. Is this possible or am I crazy?

No. AMD's Hybrid Crossfire might someday allow this.

Any reason that using one of the 2600XT's DVI ports and a DVI -> HDMI adapter is not an option?

No audio pass-through.

Forgot to mention it's because I'm gonna use my TV's speakers for the time being.

The ATI branded DVI-HDMI adapters for these cards are suppose to allow audio
pass-through.
