just bouhgt a new notebook for me, but it is 1.5 years old (used) and its a 1.3Ghz centrino pentium m laptop. under cpuZ it is a banias with sse2, and 1m L2 cache. (it is also s479) so i was curious as to whether or not it is possible to upgrade this machine to like a 1.7 dothan or the like. Thanks! mike.

Depends. First of all if the CPU is soldered in and not socketed then theres no chance whatsoever. If its socketed you'll need to do some research to see if it supports a Dothan CPU. You'll probably need to at least update your bios.

99% sure its a socket, ill have to check it later, and then perhaps just contact the website? (its from powernotebooks.com) and perhaps they will tell me if it is upgradeable or not. even if it isn't, for only being 1.3 GHz, this thing FLIES through everything 🙂

yeah, my 1.4 banais seems brilliant for its speed, and i've been contemplating upgrading to a dothan with my next student loan, could you report back if you do it and if it work? cheers!!

could do, it might take awhile before i am able to do this even if i find out that i can do this, but if i do, ill let y'all know 🙂

Run a program like CPU-Z or Everest and report back what chipset your board uses. That should help deteremine it; regardless, I'm pretty sure a BIOS update is in order. So contact the company that made it and ask them 🙂
