Possible to run 2 or more sound cards in a PC?

Which OS will you be using? What cards are you referring to, or have in mind?

Windows based. Looking to run 4 cards, 3 basics and 1 full featrued kick ass sound card. 4 total, or 3 and then use a built in one.

I have 2 USB "soundcards" (SB Extigy and a stereo with a usb hookup which lets it act as a soundcard). I use the stereo to play MP3s (or basically everything that gets played from Winamp), while the extigy gets used for everything else (games and whatnot).

so yes, it's possible, and not that difficult. most of the problems I experienced were just from telling programs to use the specific soundcard and them "forgetting". heh

I need seperate programs to use seperate cards. The outputs will be connected to relays. I'm turning the soundcards into on/off switches. :)

Yes you can, some programs even support this fairly easily (winamp for example, where you can have a different instance on each card playing different streams)
