If you're looking for a quite PC you should go for a Panaflo L1A fan. I would personally get a fan (or make one) with a rheostat so you can adjust the fan speed to suit your needs. It shouldn't be too hard to change them out, Just make sure you unplug it and don't touch any of the capacitors or the other components, just unplug the fan from its harness and splice in the new fan.

Panaflo L1A
Search through the archive for an article (I've seen one somewhere)

I've heard quite a bit of people using the 18cfm NMB's from SVC over the L1As with great success.

Do a google search or some such thing for a guide with pics and everything- it's not as intimidating as you may think ;)

Panaflo has an unsurpassed record of quality. Besides, decibel ratings are provided by the manufacturer, and can be subjective but still 'accurate'. It is my understanding, though I've not compared the two myself, that the Panaflo L1A is quieter.

I've replaced the fans in 2 of my power supplies with L1a fans. A rheostat wouldn' be necessary, as they're already silent.

but people seem to recommend the panaflo L1A more than the vantec stealth... is there any reason (other than it being $2 cheaper)?

Like godmare said, manufacturer's take the noise and flow measurements differently. Some people suggest that the amperage rating would be much more accurate. Under .1 is supposed to be quiet and above .15 is supposed to be loud.

Not all fans are equal, but the L1A can be used for both.. I don't think I understand your question.

i meant... the same type of fan can be used for either the cpu or the power supply. i think you answered my question (at least specifically with the L1A's)

Right, there's nothing different about the fans- I mean, they draw different wattages and spin a tdifferent speeds and produce more airflow, but they are all 12v and will work anywhere in your computer. The fans in psu's are just regular 80mm case fans.

Sparkle PSU's generally include a thermal variable circuit anyway. If so there will be sticker saying "Noise Killer". I also recommend the Panaflo. The low-speed should be sufficient but if you run it constantly in a hot environment the medium may be a better choice. It would still be quiet when not needed but allow for more cooling if necessary (providing it does have the Noise Killer).
