Possible to lose weight on my train trip?

I'm taking the train across the country for about a week and then going to my sister's wedding, then coming home. All in all it's only about a 3 week trip. But I'd like to lose 5 pounds while I'm gone, and of course, at best, not GAIN any weight. Last year, I did something similar and gained 30 pounds (longer time period).

Can anyone give me any recommendations? I know I should drink a lot of water on the train right? Should I avoid buying food and instead bring my own snacks? If so, where should I go? Does whole foods or trader joes sell any sort of "breakfast lunch dinner" thing I could buy that I could eat on the train that wouldn't be too many calories?

I won't be able to work out a lot - I'll try to walk a lot on the train, and hit the gym when I'm not on the train, but it'll definitely be a lot less than what I'm used to.

I have a lot of willpower, so if someone can give me some sort of plan, that would be great!

Read the fat loss sticky and come back if you still have questions. The foods I've seen on trains I've been on have all been junk food, but if you can control how much you eat you could lose weight even with that type of food. You are better off bringing your own food. Water will not help you lose weight. If you find it helps you feel less hungry then go for it but that wouldn't work for me personally.

I wish I had some secret to give you about weight loss my friend, I really do, but I don't. My only suggestion is: don't eat more food than you need.

calories in vs. calories out.....and yes, the body functions the same EVEN if you are on a train

If you are tempted to eat junk just because it's there or because, hey, you're on vacation, try to make it worth your while. Admit that you might eat more than normal during these 3 weeks, but save your splurges for the best BBQ this town has to offer, or whatever. Don't waste it on plain old crap that you could get anywhere, especially packaged stuff you are likely to find on the train - chips, twinkies, etc. In those times, bring your own or find some fruit/veg/meat/nuts or low-cal option, and watch your portion sizes.

I've lost weight on a cruise several times before, eating like a fool. However, there is a lot of time to exercise as well. If you want to exercise, just do some bodyweight stuff.
