Possible to get picture to fill whole screen from a PC on a rear projection tv?

I've tried many times before but I could never get the picture to completely fill the screen. I have the resolution at 1920 x 1080i but there's still about 1/4" to 1/2" gap around. If I change the overscan on the tv the picture goes outside the screen. If I use a custom resolution it screws with some games.

At this point I've pretty much given up. I think it's just a limitation with rear projection tvs since my friend and my parent's LCD tvs fill the screen perfectly when a computer is connected.

What's the model number for the TV? I doubt it's a limitation of the technology, but many TVs do not accept a pixel-perfect PC signal with no overscan.

KDS-R50XBR1. First gen SXRD sets from Sony.

Same results whether its an invidia or ati card, dvi to hdmi or straight hdmi.
