Possible to get out of a Sprint PCS contract

Am moving to a location where their service does not work. I only have a few months left on my contract and was wondering if moving to a location with no service was enough to break the contract.

i dont think it is but its worth a try, i'd say just lower your plan to the lowest you can without breaking or renewing your contract and then just wait it out and cancel.

Typically, yes.

With T-Mobile it works like this:

1) Give them your new address
2) They verify (via their coverage maps) that they do not have coverage in that area
3) They cancel your service

Problem with that is I want to move my number over to a different provider.

Does it only not work at your new home or do they not cover the area? You might be able to get a repeater (Sprint's cost) if you've been with them more then a year. Either that or I've heard of cases where they'll send out a tech to see if there really is a really weak or non-existant signal in your house and let you out of a contract if that proves to be the case.

Sprint does not currently provide PCS service in the 47371 area. However, we are continually expanding our network so you may want to check back later for coverage changes in your area.

I was just out in the area and there is absolutely no service within several miles.

yeah, i would just call them and find out, i would ask them whether they get coverage in a certain area, and when they say no, ask them what to do. they may have some good ideas.

Hope they are not crappy about it, but I have no choice. Switching both my GF and me to Verizon's In plan.

I've been with them for 4 years now and have never had a problem with their CS.

In the past, I've heard that they were good about letting you out of a contract if you move to a no-service area. (You would need to provide proof, such as a new utility bill, new driver's license, etc.) I don't know if it's still like that though.

They'll probably offer you free roaming first. You could take that if they won't let you out. Just make sure you're clear that because perma-roaming is not a long-term solution, you will not accept any contract extension.

Verizon Wireless is the only major carrier (including US Cellular and Alltel) that shows native digital coverage in your area, and they're probably your best bet. The other carrier is probably one of the podunk cellular companies that makes most, if not all of its money from providing roaming coverage.

Remember, you can only port your number if it's still local where you'll be moving to.

US Cell and Alltel are likely using Verizon's towers in that area or vice versa.

I'm pretty sure you can just take your number and switch to a different carrier.

I know T-Mobile has commericals about "Taking your number to a better place". The benifit of doing this is that you also get a deal on a new phone when you do this. Just walk into anyone of those multi-service cell phone stores and i'm sure they'll help you.
