Possible to get dialtone to a 56k modem wirelessly ?

A friend just gave me a call and this is his predicament ?

A computer in a shop environment needs to connect to a remote server thru a dedicated phone line.

The people using the computer would like to be able to role it around and not have to drag a phone line with them.

So far a wireless phone jack has been tried. It will work with a phone, but the modem cannot detect carrier.

They are thinking of going over the power lines but are worried that some of the machinery will make it to noisy/distorted to work.

I am not sure why the modem wouldn't work with the wireless jack??

Any Ideas would be greatly appreciated !!!

Thank you for responding 🙂

I never got there to check it all my self, but from what I understand..

The application is set to use a modem only. I guess it does a direct connection to the remote server through a dedicated phone line for security concerns.

The end result ended up running phone outlets to the stations where the system is going to be used.

The tech's using it are not computer tech's,and it has to work when they use it.

so the extra outlets were considered the best , most reliable answer.

Heh, K.I.S.S strikes again 😛

If your program uses a windows driver for a modem, you can hook the phone ip via any means serial (cable, bluetooth, infrared) and use the phone as a modem (not sure if all or even most phones support this, but it was a common way to connect to the internet wirelessly before GPRS became cheap). If its dos and it needs direct control of the device, its impossible.
