Is it possible to download full working versions of windows updates, specificly SP4 for W2000.

I have a computer with dialup at work, and I wanted to download the update at home with dsl and install it from cd, but the updates in the downloads page all are just basic setup aplications that need to connect to download the actual update.

I found a way to download a full version IE6, now i need SP4.

Do you live in the continental US, by any chance? If so, send me your mailing address in a PM and I'll send you a "care package" CD with all the patches you'd need to get from baseline Win2000 to fully-patched SP4 + all subsequent patches, as well as the full-blown IE6SP1 installer, Windows Media Player 9 installer, .NET1.1SP1, DirectX 9.0C, and latest-version nVidia and ATI video drivers for good measure. No cost, just pass on the favor if you get the opportunity :)

edit: actually, I read closer, I see you have the bandwidth and just need the link. Here's full-version SP4, click the Network Installation link at the right, under the Download bar.

If it matters, you can get SP4 on a CD from MS, I think its free, don't remember.

IE6 SP1 comes on a CD also

(I got the CDs months ago and assume that they are still available)

You should go to microsoft.com and find the update catalog, it has all the updates ever released, and you can download them as .MSI's or .EXE's or something like that and burn them to CD.

This should have what you want.

How would one go about doing the same thing for XP? It would be great if I could get all the latest updates in one or two large downloads instead of many individual updates.

I dont' think you can combine all the individual updates for XP. The best thing to do would be to use NLite to slipstream all the updates into your original Windows CD.

In general if you want to DL a WinUpdate you need to know the KB number for that update. Then just search for that number under Downloads and voila. But really for XP or SP4 I would just DL the latest Update Rollup, and any Critical updates. DL the rest after you're updated, firewalled, and have AV loaded.

Thanks for the responses,

I will try the netwrok install. jundging from the size , it is truly the whole thing.

The rest, like the downloads from http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/critical/default.mspx
are just setup files. When run they will check your system for what is needed, then have to connect to download the actual update.

I will get the CDs fot the future, but my cmputer at work need to be up and running now.
