Possible to damage mobo by powering w/out cpu?

So I have my system built mostly and have powered it up a few times and as an afterthought I wonder if it's possible to damage the board by powering it without a cpu? I have VGA and ram and everything hooked up (fans, water cooled setup etc all wired up and loomed) and am just waiting on my proc from an ebay sale (P4 D 830) since I couldn't find it online at a store for a reasonable price $120 on ebay and no lower than 185 shipped on price grabber and no lower then $225 on pricewatch which I found odd since the 840 was ~175 on pricewatch and $378 on pricegrabber??? maybe someone can explain why the 830 is more expensive then it's slightly faster brother the 840?
