I have a domain with a handful of email accounts. I want to be able to check mail for each account, either via mailbox, or a folder in the file system. Is it possible to do this with IIS 6.0 SMTP service?

If this isn't possible with IIS alone, can it be done with the help of some 3rd party software (not willing to install Exchange)? If so, what type of software would I need, and what are some apps you'd recommend for this?

SMTP is for transferring mail to/from a mail server. Even with SMTP, you need the server to handle mail boxes and such. Do you have a mail server?

I don't have a mail server. I'm basically asking how to set one up. What's a good one to use (other than Exchange) on windows server 2003?

I don't need a lot of logins, the mails coming to this server will be used by an automated process for a very specific purpose. If i can just get a mailbox set up I can handle checking the mail via POP3, or whatever. Even accessing the emails directly on the file system would be fine for my needs.

If you want to stick w\ 2003, there is a POP3 service. If you google for it there are a few tutorials on setting it up. Not a lot of features, but it might be what you are looking for.
