Possible to connect a game console to monitor?

Does anyone have a game system hooked to their monitor, either directly or through their computer?

I know the X-Box 360 will be able to hook up directly to a VGA monitor, but what about like a Playstation 2 or Gamecube that dosen't have that capability?

I know there are several methods that MIGHT work. Like an "All in Wonder" or other TV Tuner card, or a Viewsonic Nextvision. But my last experience trying to do this with a PS1 through a 3dfx card with a tuner was VERY disapointing. It technically worked, but the image quality was so degraded that it wasn't worth playing.

So I'm just wondering if anyone has personally done this with good results. (My good TV recently died, and I'm not really wanting to replace it-plus then I could play a console in more locations, etc.)

theres your answer there. a TV has a native resolution of about 640x480 where as computers support far more than that. if you were to run the game at that res on the computer screen it would be just the same, but smaller than a TV. the PS2/GC wont be able to support the added pixels hence the crappy image quality. its like using a older graphics card to try and game on a 1600x1200 monitor. it just cant support the added pixels.

I know they can't use the extra resolution, but I'd just like a way to watch them with reasonable image quality. The only method I've tried in the past results in a horrible picture from the conversion process.

xbox & playstation2 both have limited hdtv support. you can get a scan converter to convert the component out from one of those systems to vga.

gamecube has suppoet for progressive scan. its possible to modify their component out to output RGB that you can use on a monitor as well.
