Hope you all get your files. Sucks that you got to chip in extra just to do that.

I'm considering buying out RippleHost, I'll contact Alan and begin negotiations.

their name is already so tainted Rossy, do you really want to take over such a stinky buisniess. You'll be spending most of your time "making up" for past sins.

Oh I know that, I just feel bad for the hundreds (thousands?) of customers he shafted. It will be like a "hobby", I have no intentions of making any money from it. If I'm successful I'll probably split the costs with another web host (Telnap, HostPC, SonataWeb, Idologic - whoever will listen).

If I gain access to the accounts one of my first duties will be to send out a mass e-mail stating "TOLD YOU SO - YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!!!".

Listen to the other cane, he too is both wise and stripey.

Buying exclusive access to their customer list might be worth a little, but paying more than a pittance for the tainted brand name seems like a bad idea.

LOL, almost worth it despite all the customers you'll finish driving away :)

Rossman,

If you are really thinking about buying ripplehost, please PM or email me so that we do not duplicate efforts. Maybe I can help you out.

My email is in my profile, and my PM's are open.

I just spoke with timswim78. We're going to proceed trying to raise $240 to get the servers turned back on for 1 month.

If you can contribute $15, $25 or more please send a PM to timswim78 with your name, amount, AIM and email address.

If Alan replies to my offer to buy out RippleHost, we'll begin those negotiations.

I contacted Jason today over the phone today however he was busy.

Edit: Sorry, replied a bit quickly, looks like there is a solution, nevermind Ross, I thought you posted that just recently.

ok, so i've been using ripplehost for a year for my cub scout pack ... since it's the summer i haven't checked the sight lately ... so can somebody fill me in on what's going on here? did the server compay pull the plug for a while? right now i can get to my web site, but i can't try cpanel since it's blocked from work for some reason. the message on the ripplehost board says we only have access 'til monday - does that mean after monday my site will be offline? that would really blow since i just paid my annual fee ...

That is what it means. Right now Cpanel is turned off. It has been since the 18th. It seems that Alan has not been paying his bills. He has been AWOL from the Ripplehost forums since February or so.

The owner of the servers is owed a bit of money but had agreed to turn Cpanel back on very shortly. He has said Cpanel will remain active until Monday. After that I imagine he may take the servers completely off line.

So, when Cpanel comes back up go in and get your data and then move on. There are much better places to go.

joecool,

I've chatted with the owner of RippleHost.com Mr. Alan Reid who said he has left web hosting to concentrate on his web design firm. Basically everyone who is/was a RippleHost customer is screwed. My advice to you is the minute you get home login to cPanel AND FTP. Download ALL your email and HTML contents. If cPanel is working I would just do a full backup. Do not wait until this weekend, do it IMMEDIATELY when you get home.

As for your recent renewal, I would contact RippleHost requesting a refund. You probably will not receive a reply at which time you'll need to dispute it with Paypal or your credit card issuer.

thanks for the info guys, not really too worried about the data as i've got the source on my pc at home, but the real question is, where do i move to for a good, inexpensive host. rossman, any chance you'll assume ripplehost? how much does alan owe these folks?

as a side note, i've just got to say that alan has proved himself to be a world-class jerk. his lack of presence on the ripplehost forums, his lack of any notification to use users, while continuing to accept money (i just re-upped a month ago) is really bogus. i hope his design firm goes belly up quickly.

You know what? I <3 Rossman for suggesting Idologic to me a year or so ago. It IS worth paying a bit more for the quality service they have. I

I would hate to be in this position and I feel for you guys.

GL getting your data back.
