Looks like Valhalla is running right on schedule. Depending on how they did the chip connection, this could finally be the version of the 360 that's RROD free, at least from the traditional source of RRODs.

I can't click the link, but if it contains the picture of the "leaked motherboard" it looks fake.

That's the picture it gave in the article. Said it combines the CPU and GPU into one unit.

I saw that picture this morning and, as I said, it looks fake. What are all the things on the back? The front right "memory card" slot looks all wrong. A 140mm fan Cooler Master fan? I'm sure those are outsourced cheap Chinese made fans, why not go with that instead of a "name brand"? I just don't see this being real.

Umm. You realize this would just be a testing platform that represents the hardware that would ultimately be utilized. In other words, they don't know what brand of cooling fan they'll use yet but for now slapped a Cooler Master on it.

I'm not saying it's definitely real, but the issues you're pointing out would only be valid if that was a finalized piece of hardware, which the article doesn't claim it to be.

I wasn't able to read the article at work, but I had already seen the photo of the leaked motherboard. A coworker and myself were going over it. Even as a prototype, it just looks wrong.

I don't know if they'll announce the "Slim" at E3 but this revision has been a long time coming. The GPU/CPU core unification was already road-mapped out a couple of years ago.

They'll probably launch this at about the same time as Natal so I wouldn't expect any official news on this plus a price drop plus a Natal bundle until late August/Early September. That has been around the time previous revisions started sneaking out to store shelves.

I'm going to disagree here. I was looking at some pictures of the 360 mobos, and it actually looks somewhat believable, especially if you're of the opinion that it's an engineering sample or some other non-production prototype.

In front, you've got a single memory card reader and the power button - no more front USB ports, I guess. As for the single memory card reader, remember that there's no need for your own memory card when all the 360s now come with onboard flash or HDD. (Or, alternatively, the mechanical power button might have been replaced with a touch sensitive switch plugged in elsewhere, and those are USB ports.)

In back, from left to right, you've got the power input, the video output, the USB/ethernet port, and what I'm guessing is a SECOND set of USB ports.

Disagree all you want, but it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility...

Anything is possible but I hope they wouldn't do away with the memory card slots. Being able to use the memory cards to move your gamertag and saves from one Xbox 360 to another is must have feature since it doesn't support game saves on USB memory sticks.

I've seen multiple Xbox360 motherboards, and the memory card port looks a lot differnt. That, and the fact that there are too many things on the back make it suspect. I am not saying it isn't out of the realm of possiblity because if it was just an engineering prototype to test the new CPU/GPU combo, it could not be the production prototype.

Heh. Well, Dell Canada now has 360 Arcades on sale for $129 and Dell US has 360 Arcades for $179.99 with a $50 gift card? Clearing out stock for the Slim? ;)

instead of 'xbox 360 slim,' how about just a 'xbox 360 doesn't get molten hot and destroy itself?'

Yeah, that would be the Jasper...which we've covered repeatedly in this forum.

I'm worried about them making it smaller. It took them forever to work the kinks out of the larger case model, so I'm sure a smaller model would cause new issues.
