Possible roundoff errors...Prime95

Hi,

So I'm trying to get a little more out of my CPU by upping the voltage to 1.56-1.58 and raising the HTT. I'm able to boot with it set at x11 for the CPU multi, 236 for HTT, and 3/4 for LDT. When running Prime95, it goes well for the first 5 minutes, but then it goes into a loop with the message "Possible roundoff errors...backtracking to last save file" or something to that effect. During these errors, the CPU usage will dip to 90% then back to 100% every 30 seconds or so.

What exactly does this error mean and can I continue to stress test my settings like this? I tried doing a search for this error, but unfortunately, I could not find anything.

Thanks!

EDIT - I should add that when I run Prime95 with my old OC settings (see this thread), it runs just fine. So I'm assuming that it is a setting-related problem. But what can it be?

Wow, no one knows? No wonder there was very limited info when searching for this error on Google. :frown:

It sounds like a software issue, except for the fact it is fine with old settings...Go the mersennes.org and go into the forums and see if this is a known issue...

What version are you running???

if you getting errors reported from running prime95 when OCing your either pushing your system to far, or your cpu is not getting enough voltage.
If your getting prime95 error your system isnt 100% stable

It bassically means that your PC made a mis-calucalation when running Prime95.

Also it would be helpful if you posted your system specs in your sig, or post.

It still seems odd...Normally is just errors outs...stops...then give rounding eror and that is it...no looping no longer continuing to use 90% cpu power....

Are you running large, small, or blend???

If you are running the ones testing ram how much ram have you allocated for it to use???

Hi,

I'm sorry, I'm still new to this stuff so please forgive me for my ignorance...what do you mean by large, small, or blend?

I've allocated 512 of RAM for the testing.

To clarify, I haven't set anything special within Prime95 except for the memory setting (512). I simply open Prime95, and it starts running automatically and my CPU usage jumps to a constant 100%.

In the meantime, I've reverted back to my old OC settings (2520MHz @ 229x11) until I can figure out how to get more out of this thing. :)

Check under Options-> Torture test

3 Options

When running the stress test, the preferred option is Maximun Heat, and Power consumption.

There are options that can use just about ALL of your memory, that's what duvie is talking about.

How much do you have allocated?

Thanks, I'll check those settings out.

I've allocated 512.
