I'm trying to get rid of a virus but i think my registry is corrupted and possibly some of it's gone.. how do I get back to square one after i finally get rid of the virus/spyware/malware/adware? I need help bad

Do you have a backup Image of your system ? ? If you do restore it and the only things you will lose are anything installed or changed after the date the image was created. That is why it is important to periodically make a system backup with a program like Norton Ghost or Acronis TruImage .. There is no way to just restore the Registry unless at some recent time, you had saved a copy of the Registry to a safe location, like a thumb drive. You may be better off just doing a complete reinstall as some viruses are extremely hard to get rid of entirely.

everything seems to be working..mostly sofar.. keep getting messages from a spyware program saying im infected and do i want to scan..yada yada yada. At least now I can open my control panel and stuff.. I went to the registry to try and find the entries that symantec said to delete but there not there.. can I do a fresh instal of xp pro on the same computer without getting MS to ok it like with a new computer? and will that get rid of the remnants that i cant get rid of...

so far I've used:
spybot
cc cleaner
ad-aware
and my corp symantec from work

any suggestions?

Yes you can do a reinstall and not have to worry about MS not activating it. Just explain why if you need to call them. I would, however, suggest you run MalwareBytes .. from http://malwarebytes.org and see what it finds. It is very good at fixing problems.
