Possible RAM Issue

So I've been trying to make some DVDs on my NEC, but my computer doesnt even make it through encoding the video, it just shuts down. Now I'm assuming it's not a power issue, as I got my PSU replaced this past December. Therefore, I'm assuming it's my RAM. It's old, ugh, one stick is 2100 256, and the other stick is 256 (i dunno how fast). They're from a good 2 1/2 years ago. What's the best way to see how the RAM is handling the encoding?

Would the Corsair 1 gig Value Select pack be the best to go with?
