I installed the new nvidea drivers on my computer for my geforce 5900nu. I tried testing them with 3dmark 2003 and a window popped up saying that the card wasn't getting enough power. I never got such a popup with the older drivers that i used. I have a generic psu which i haven't even checked the wattage. I was going to buy a brand name psu for my next computer that i was going to build next year but looks as if i might have to get one earlier.

Checking my aida readings while just being online I get these readings:

+3.3 = 3.39 (this too high?)
+5 = 4.97
+12 = 11.90
-12 = -11.90
-5 = -4.48

Do you guys think i need a new psu or is it another issue?
 
For the love of all that is good and holy, buy a decent PSU. It's the heart of your system. Generic PSUs are usually ticking time bombs, waiting to cause you problems.

I suggest a Antec/Fortron/Enermax/Sparkle in no real order.
 
I've had my computer for like 3 years so it wasn't built myself, or else i would have bought a better psu. I have just upgraded alot of parts of it until i can gather enough money to build a computer on my own next year. The computer had come with a geforce 2 mx and i couldn't wait until next year to buy a new video card so i got the 5900nu. I just want to know if its the psu that's the problem. If it is I'll buy one that I can also hopefully use on my system that i build next year. If you had to buy one right now what would you get? ($60 max)
 
Sorry if that came off rude, I didn't intend it that way. I definitely think it is a PSU problem. Your rails are fine, but generic is generic. Give us the rundown on your specs there and we can suggest something for ya 😀:beer:
 
I heard the newer NVidia cards require at least a 450w power supply. Look for ones made by a good manufacturer like Antec, Enermax, or PC power and cooling. If you are strapped for cash to buy a good psu try looking in the FS/FT section and see if you can't find a good deal there...
 
I'm going to buy the Thermaltake Silent Purepower, 420watt which is on sale for around $40 Does that sound like a good idea/deal?
