Possible problem with 8800GT

I had the same problem.

What are your video clocks?

Try underclocking the video card.



I had the stock cooler and the GPU was getting to 77C, but the memory was probably getting much hotter because the stock cooler is like an oven.

This happened with overclock settings.... it was fine with 702/1674/972. But when I OC'd the core to 712 or 720, my screen would go blank and then reboot.

I have since installed a Duorb and am stable at 720... might possibly go higher.

I tried lowering the clock speed, it still does it. It doesnt go blank and reboot, it literally turns off, no fans, no lights, nothing. Its like someone turned it off. In about 2-3 seconds it will come back on and reboot. It actually just did this as windows was loading my desktop, just died and then rebooted.

I am going to try a new PSU, I dont know what else to try at this point. I am considering a Corsair PSU, is that a good choice. I also asked this in the power supply forum, but the more opinions the better, I dont want another flaky PSU.

It was the power supply. I just put a Corsair HX520W PSU in and so far so good. COD4 works on high res, no weird start up issues.

Anyone reading this make note - don't buy a PSU based on it's power ratings (500w 400w)

Buy a trusted brand, and check that the amperage available on the 12v rail. Most higher
end graphics cards will want closer to 30a.

Just because it says 500w doesn't mean it is 500w, or that the power is stable or with
enough amperage.
