With the presumed next generation iPhone coming in a month or two where should I go to get it? This will be my first iPhone.

1. The local mothership, Apple Store.
2. The AT&T Store
3. Internet

The Apple stores generally get a considerably larger number on launch day than the AT&T stores, but for me the AT&T stores are 5 minutes away while the Apple store is about an hour.

However, if you have any oddities in your AT&T account I would stick to an AT&T store as the Apple stores can't do much other than sell you the phone while the AT&T store can work on account issues as well as sell you the phone.

I'd recommend the Apple store cause the AT&T store runs out fast. I did have a problem with Apple though last year because my account had a FAN# in the past. If your account is fine (or you're opening a new account), the Apple store is fine. They'll probably have more accessories too if you need.

If your signing up a new account, you should be fine buying at an Apple Store.

ah, the now annual . . . should I upgrade again and resell my soul to ATT or wait for next summer?

but i digress, my experience is unless you want to get in line the night before launch, ATT stores will be sold out by the time the line clears so you might be better off trying the apple store. or you can wait a bit till the initial frenzy subsides and the reveiws come in to decide if its worth your time and money.

Last year, I waited in line at the apple store for a good 8 hours only to be turned away because they cannot apply any discounts on my account. Apparently they did take that long because their system was not syncing with ATT so they were taking a much longer time opening new accounts. If you have any sort of discount put on your account then you will need to go to an ATT corporate store for that. I would suggest going to an ATT corproate strore during launch day. Even if they have fewer units, you can do an initial charge. The phone will arrive at the store within 7 days (most of the time sooner). You miss the hassle of waiting in line and/or having to seek out any stores still carrying inventory that way.

My suggestion would be to wait a month after release. If the new iPhone has any bugs, it gives Apple time to iron them out; plus they'll be plenty available and no line ups. I don't know why people do wait hours on end just to be the first to get it but I guess I'm just not geeky enough to understand.
