Possible Military Draft on the Horizon?

Bogus... I'm in the military now and we're downsizing. They call it force shaping. Anyone that wants to get out applies and are pretty much released from active duty. Why the hell would they have a draft not even a full year from now? They wouldn't. I wouldn't worry about it unless you read something from a credible website such as cnn.com.

I searched for Draft, and all that returned was NFL draft pick threads...hundreds! and I am getting flamed for one measily P&N thread.
 
It's FUD started by Rep. Charles Rangel (D) in an attempt to drum up the same type of protests we saw in the 60s.

Anyone who knows history understand that the massive anti-war protests in the 60s were, in large part, fueled not by direct opposition to the war, but by college age kids in fear of being drafted. The huge protests promptly ended in 1973 when the draft was repealed. (A full two years before military actions stopped in SE Asia)

Rangel seeks to draw on these same feelings and fears to further his cause.

It hasn't a chance in hell of passing. The armed forces and the current admin are opposed to it.

Hell, it *could* have come from a creditable source, there have been some wacko comments regarding a draft from congressmen in the recent past.

edit: and there is the link to the bill, which is OLD news.

It's not just Bush either. Both Reps and Dems are discussing this and it will probably pass next year for all youngsters 18-26. I want to hurry up and age already. 😛
