Possible Lilo problem?

I just installed Mandrake 9 over the weekend on my laptop. The installation went fine and had no problems. I was able to log into Mandrake and run programs. Now, I have an existing Windows XP Professional installation on the HD I wanted to keep, so I wanted to dual boot between them. I found an article on the Mandrake sitedescribing how to install Mandrake with an existing XP installation and dual boot. I followed the directions, created the 512Byte boot sector dump to a BIN file, and added the entry for this file in the BOOT.INI file. I was able to boot into Mandrake with the new BOOT.INI entry with no problem. I then wanted to make sure that I could also load into XP, since I that is where I have all of my data. All is working well.

Well, this morning I wanted to boot into Mandrake by selecting the OS name in the list, and I get the following message:

"LILO - Keytable read/checksum error"

What does this mean? Does the effectively mean that I'm screwed? If so, then how should I have done the installation for dual boot? BTW, I did create a boot partition (7MB) for Linux. Also, I can boot off of my floppy disk I created during setup, and get access to my Linux install.

Thanks,

If you can boot from a floppy you probably just need to reinstall lilo (did you do this when you reinstalled the distro?). All you need to do is run lilo as root. If it dosn't work post your lilo config, and a short description of how you're booting would help (as many of us are too snobby/poor/cheap to run XP).

Well, I did have Lilo install during the setup of Mandrake, but like I stated above, it should be working. I don't know why it's not.

I might just go back to Lilo as the primary loader, then BOOT.INI as the second loader to get to my Windows XP and Windows .NET installs.

Thanks.

If you have problems and paste your lilo.conf file it would also be nice with a view of your partitions.. just paste the contents of /etc/fstab in the message as well.

I will later tonight. I'm at a client's place, and I forgot my floppy drive. So, I will gather the LILO.CONF file and the contents of /etc/fstab. But, keep in mind that I'm not even getting to Lilo when I select the OS from the list. What I might do as well is dump the boot loader again from the boot partition of my linux install and re-add it to the Windows XP partition. Maybe Windows did something funky and the dump needs to be dumped again.
