Possible LAME Proxy Question

Through the magic of searching, I don't seem to come across any threads that address my exact problem so I will ask away.
All I want to do is have a Win2000 computer that is using a DSL link to the internet (dynamic IP) be able to share that connection with a Win98SE machine that is in another room (the kids machine). Both machines are connected VIA an Intel 10/100 switch with the external DSL Modem Cat5 cable connection plugged into the uplink port of the switch. The Win2000 machine is then connected to the #1 RJ45 port on the switch. The Win98SE machine is connected to the #2 RJ45 port on the switch. I have an extra Kingston 10/100 NIC that came with the DSL install kit. The Win2000 connects just fine to the internet (must use Winpoet) but the Win98SE machine does not even show up on the network. HELP!
What I want to eventually accomplish is to have both machines surfing the internet at the same time and to send and receive e-mail independantly but not get charges for another IP address from earthlink.

The easiest way is to use a proxy server like Wingate or webwasher (freeware). (Probably problems with this e-mail stuff... but it can be done)
A better solution would be a NAT like NAT32 or winroute pro (this program is godly).

check www.winfiles.com and search for proxy programs.

Ask if you need details on configuring server/client.

Ok stick the second NIC in the Win2K machine. Now plug the modem into one NIC in that machine and the other NIC into the switch. Set your 98 machine to use the IP 192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0 and use 192.168.0.1 as the gateway. Now on the 2K machine after you configure the card on the modem, go into the properties of that card and click on share this connection.

No the other machine should just be set to use the local network for connections.

hey i dont know too much about ppoe but whats stopping him from just installing winpoet on anothermachine and signing on?

Why bother? If he has them networked together the other machine will use the interenet using ICS.

you should really use lower case letters when using the adverb "via". other wise ppl initially mis-interpret it as the mobo company "VIA".
