Did anyone else get a Samsung drive? I'm considering this deal because it sounds great. My Smart & Friendly badged Richo 7060A just doesn't like a *lot* of CDR media (like the Kingston stuff, PNY stuff, etc). It loves the Ricoh media just fine though, hehe...

StevenTodd--you can find online coupon sites by doing a search under "coupons" under any search engine. Some of my favorites are tech*deals.com [remove the asterisk], bigbigsavings.com, and dealcatcher.com.

Just wanted to ask one more time:

Did you get a Plextor or a Samsung?
When did you order?

I just ordered today so I'm hoping I get a Plextor. Wanted to see what other people (who ordered recently or when the deal was first posted) got!

You can usually get coupons at fatwallet or techbargains, but right now they don't work. Maybe because of the free shipping promotion. Anyone try ordering the Que 32x10x12x..this one lists as using Burn-proof technology which should make it a Plextor.

I emailed Que about this a week ago, and they said that is it NOT a plextor. I will post the email when I get home.

Atomics: Which drive are you talking about? The one in the thread topic (8x4x32) or the one mentioned by bosozoku and others?

bosozoku: Fatwallet coupon for buy.com worked for me ($30 off $150).

I've got my fingers crossed... I want to get this drive (Plextor) and get rid of my Ricoh 7060A but I don't want to spend more than ~ $140.

Damn. I hadn't opened the box because I'm waiting for my m/b to show up. I got a Samsung too.

Sorry if I led folks astray.

I couldn't cancel because it shipped already, guess I'll just refuse delivery like the buy.com CSR suggested. Once it is back in their hands and they credit my card I can call them back and have them reset my coupons so I can use it again (least hope so, read about someone else doing that here).

The Plextor 8x4x32 is $184.95, so $154.95 after $30 off $150 + ~ %6 shipping is about $161. I think I'm just going to order that because I'll get:

- full Plextor support
- retail version with 4mb of cache (have to double check on this)

Not to start an IDE vs SCSI war, but at the higher burn speeds I'd rather go with proven SCSI technology rather than IDE. Lower speed maybe cheaper IDE is just fine.

Best current price for the Plextor 8x4x32 is $151.90 :

mychaseshop.com -- PID=569879

Price-match with Staples, using a $40-off coupon, free-shipping ...

...gets final cost down to under $125 shipped.

(BTW, last night the advertised shipping cost for the Plextor was $3.50. That ad seems to have disappeared this afternoon...sooo a comparison-price for Staples will be $151.90 + ??? ...maybe it's still $3.50...dunno)

(BTW, BTW, Staples 14-day policy will allow purchasers of Staples products to match any new lower price the customer finds. I was able to gain a refund of $11 just by showing Staples the mychaseshop.com webpage. Just one-day prior to this mychaseshop offer (and even before the item shipped from Staples) I initiated a PM on the buy.com offer of $159.90 + $5.50. The new deal is lower both in product price and shipping.)

Sadly, I've read on Usenet that QPS has stopped using Plextors and is now using Matsushitas, and if you go to Onvia's Canada web site, go to the QPS 8432 and look at the comments section, you'll find a complaint from a customer who bought the drive in October and found that they're also using Samsung..

A better deal in my opinion is a FACTORY refurbished (which I assume means good-as-new) Plextor 8432 for $140 US..go to the refurbished products section on the Plextor web site and click on the price list pdf file..it's right at the top..

A guy I work with bought one of these after reading this very thread. Guess what? He sent it back. It was a Samsung. Buyer beware!
