POssible Hot Deal?? on 1 gb IBM microdrive for the pda's and cameras

The microdrive is for use in digital camera's, pda's etc. The other drive is a small drive..but not near as small, I believe it's what the Apple iPod and the likes use. Some PDA's will take PCMCIA cards, although you need a special adapter normally, and it does get bulk. The microdrive's are tiny, the size of a compact flash card, although they do suck a ton of batteries so you're camera will run out a bit quicker. You're talking the 5gb being about 2-3x the size of the compact flash. I see the microdrive as having a lot more potential, the other is just a small hard drive.

the microdrive is just a small hard drive....

true, the microdrive is like a small hard drive because it stores memory, i guess... but it can be used just like compact flash cards, which allows it to be used in cameras, for example, where pc cards wouldn't work.

Wait, The microdrive isn't like a small hard drive, it IS a small hard drive in a compact flash form factor. The drive in the IPOD is made by toshiba and it is 5mm thick, not sure on the length or height though.

Or just a real big compact flash. and a real expensive one too.

I got mine 1GB IOMega MicroDrive (manufactured by IBM) with PC Card adapter for $200 shipped. IOMega still has these for $229 as their regular price.

Called IOMEGA, they won't be selling the 1GB anymore... other sites, such as buy.com, still do so if you really want it, get it from there...

I personally figured spending an extra $30 (plus free shipping) for the IBM version was no biggie so I went with Apricorn to get mine... talked to Judy, extremely nice, said I'd get it by Thurs but then called back and said they ran out and were gonna get more the next day... she upgraded my shipping for free so that i still got it on Thurs... great experience, highly recommended...
