Well, I had a bunch of extra components sitting around so I decided to make a secondary machine. In the end the machine came down to this:
AXP 1800+
ECS K7S5A
256 MB PC 2100
Radeon 8500
40GB WD
120GB WD
I want to use this machine as a game server or something along those lines and it should work well as that. After installing all the programs I want on a fresh Win 2k install it ran fine for a few days. Yesterday I started it up and got a blue screen with Inaccessible_boot_device and a bunch of text. I restarted with last known good configuration and it loaded just fine. This happened again today but I cannot get it to boot regardless of resetting it to the last known good configuration.
Does anyone know if this is a sure sign that my 5 year old+ 40gb drive is finally dead? If so then no biggie, I will try it all with the 120gb I have sitting around but if it's another, fixable problem then I want to address that. Thanks for any help!

EDIT To add some more info: the first time it had this error I restarted windows and ran a complete checkdisk of my C: drive and it found no errors.
