Possible hard drive failure

My girlfriend's HD in her DELL POS, was actin kinda funny as of late.

Today the power went out and when we tried to turn it back on, the WIn2k splash screen shows, but I get an immediate BSOD that says "Boot disk inaccessible"

There's a lotta priceless pics on this HD, so I immediately threw the HD into one of my machines and it worked as a slave just fine. I'm transferring all sensitive data as we speak.

SO what happened? Corrupted boot file? Bad HD? Or could it be something else? I dunno.

kinda weird it will work without a hitch as a slave, but will not boot no matter what on it's own.

What do u think?

How old is it?

If I had to bet off of the information you're giving me though, I'd say it was going the way of the dinosaurs. I had a drive start flaking on me like that shortly before the end.

Yeah, I think I am gonna transfer all the stuff I wanna save and reformat the drive. I dunno how old the drive is, but I checked the Maxtor warranty online and it said the warranty expired 12/24/04 so I'm guessing it was old.
