possible dumb question: what's up with expensive cases?

Kinda been wondering why people blow all the computer budget on $100+ cases when you can get perfectly good cases with lots of bays for like $40. What do you need in a case? It holds the parts, it doesn't cut you, it's easy to get in to. You don't need an expensive Antec to do that. I'd save the cash and buy an upgrade down the road...

That said, I know lots of people spend lots of money on good cases, so I want to know why? What am I missing out on?

I bought one cuz I liked the style and cuz it was aluminum. ... It's just a preference on my part though.

i bought the antec sx1030 because of it's size.... fan holders... sytling.... and psu that came with it

but i also have 2 enlight 7237's that can be had for $50.... i like them... but not as much as my antec

Well, I used to have a heavy as a rock Antec SX1030B, but then I got rid of that beast and later picked myself up a nice Al. Coolermaster ATC-210. Looks nice, weighs a lot less, much easier to mod, shall I go on?

if you open your case side by side with an antec performance series case (635, 830 or 840, 1030, 1040, etc..) you will see lots of differences that are very worth the money and also a power supply that has the amd seal of approval.😉

I;ve tried those cheap enlights and didn't like the motherboard tray, but I've bought lots of some no-name brand that I found at a local shop and I think they're great. Easy to mod, too.

Ah-ha! An expensive case you shouldn't have to mod! Maybe I just answered my own question.

Yeah, but for the difference in price you could buy the Antec PSU seperately and have the original one for a spare.

My lite-on FS020 was worth every penny. 3 120mm fan mounts, air-intake filter, and it's really wide giving you tons of room to work with.

ShadowFox, actually the more expensive boxes don't even include P/Ss anymore. 🙁

I'm just not seeing well-designed cases with the features I want in the sub $70 range. They're all $100-200 (again w/o P/S). I'm pretty picky about case features, though.

functionally they can be identical to far less expensive cases, but aesthetically, they're often light years ahead ...

(stardate 1045.493, captain's log - i'm nerdaciously nerdalicious)

the only [ed. left out word 'reason'] i spend more on functionally identical/similar products is for its looks...w/ that said, i'm a huge loser...haha, just kidding ego, i'd never say that about u...

peanuts anyone?

Dude, a $100 case is considered a budget case here in hawaii, it's impossible to find one for under $80.

i have learned from expierence that a good case will save you a lot of headaches down the road. there easier to upgrade, come with more cooling options, have better PSU, look better in most cases, easier to work in. Ill never buy another cheap case again.

My answer: because the more expensive cases are designed better. I just got a Lian-Li PC65, and it is dreamy... they thought of everything. Everything is accessible, air flow is great (lots of fans, well placed, etc), and it looks good.

A Ford Escort gets you from point A to point B, but some people still buy BMW's anyway. It's the same difference.

Or, maybe, it's just a part of the only difference between men and boys is the size of their toys theory... 😉

When I got my antec sx830, I was amazed by the quality and the structure of the case. It completely blew my old mid tower case away, the case fan holders, the removable front cover (for installing cd roms) and the hard drive cage, were all great components to a great case. Definitely worth the 92 bucks I spent in august.

I bought an Antec 830 so that I could fit a heater core from a car in there and have a quiet watercooled setup.

Of course, I never have gotten around to setting that up, and don't think I ever will. 😛

Actually, I just remembered this, one of my friends joked that my case showed off the pride that I have in my computer, I thought that was a cool things to say 🙂
