It's not nice to invade other nations.

WTF??? Is wrong with you. It sounds like you are happy that they are missing/maybe hurt or dead. Remember those are your countrymen even if you don't agree with thier leadership...which I certainly don't.

I think Moonbeam is trying to remind you of the bigger picture. IE, you guys shouldn't even be there.
Everyone is sympathetic to the individuals missing, hurt, killed in combat. That doesn't mean the point isn't true.

No I think Moonbeam just has take a jab at the war, president bush or reality whenever he has the chance regardless of how inappropriate or callous it might be. Given the choice i'd rather be abducted by terrorists then have to listen to half of MB's posts. Some do have merit but good lord needle in a hay stack.

Well.... let's say he (moonbeam) said the opposite... (It's nice to invade other nations.) From this I'd conclude the subsequent event was pleasant. If he was sarcastic in the 'It's nice...' then I'd conclude the subsequent event was not pleasant... since the sarcastic 'It's nice' is essentially that which was posted one can conclude that both the subsequent event and the invasion were not pleasant and to eliminate the former eliminate the latter next time.

So all that bluster was just to say that if you didn't want them to die you shouldn't have sent them over there. Splendid. Thanks for the insight.

But this thread is not about the righteousness of the war...it's about missing US soldeirs. To make a trite comment like that shows an unconscionable lack of solemnity for their sacrifice. When the soldiers were interviewed before the war started, every single one I saw said they were going into Iraq to liberate the Iraqi people who couldn't liberate themselves. Not one of them said they were going to conquer Iraq or uncover WMD or bring glory to the Bush administration.

These men volunteered to fight and possibly die for what they believe in. In one day as a soldier they've shown more conviction for something than you have in your entire life. And you dare to treat glibly news about their safety? You severely need a life.

I assume you are posting to me... given you selected my post... but, my original post was:

"Last night on c-span the nominee for Cent Com opined that the US had sufficient troops in theater to prosecute the objective. I'm not too sure. It seems to me in a country of Iraq's size as few as 10000 loyal Saddamists could attrit American troops to the point of frustrating the military operations there and the public support for it at home.
Finding these soldiers is important as well as finding a means to avoid similar instances in the future... "

The post you responded to was an opinion to an opinion of an opinion etc.. regarding Moonbeam's post.

I'll regard your comments to me as being really directed to someone else. If this is not the case, whatever.

Golly are you talking to me or HJ or have you just sort of blended us together in the same pot.

Well I kind of see you as alter egos of the same person. You so often coddle each other repeatedly in threads that you're either the same person or special friends...either way I figured a reply to one was a reply to the other.

Gosh, I don't see how you can fault me for thinking of HJ as a special friend. It's so very seldom one meets somebody of such depth, perspicacity and sage wit. I always have a bit of a difficulty with people like you, though, Hero, because you have confused your identity with patriotic fervor. You think that an attack on you is an attack on American and the other way around. You confuse devotion with real patriotism which demands real analysis. It doesn't do to support the country when and if it does evil and a critique of policy is not an attack on the men who are sworn to carry it out. You pump yourself up like a puffer fish, all prickly spine with little meat. You are outraged that somebody could dare insult what you hold dear. Nobody is insulting the core principle of your belief, only the stupid emotional attachment to it's external form. You think the country is it troops its flag it wealth and a thousand external things. To me it is the invisible, ineffable, indescribable sense of human spirit the founders felt and tried as best they could to suffuse into the documents of our founding, the sense of an inalienable something that pervades the soul of man. You worship the externals and I'm a secrets' man.

It's not that you aren't called by something beautiful, I think. It's how your worship manifests is where I see a mistake.

Mom said it was spelt it right... but I wondered about the having 'a cute mind' with out a bit o brain surgery and you have that sharp knife.. and all... ;)

About the saving... 'They' are convinced they walk on water and they do for a bit or it may seem so.. but we are compelled to throw the life preserver because we know better... if they'd only reach for it... as they gurgle, gurgle to the basalt of their doom.;)

Those 2 were stationed permanently here at FT Sill. We have lost about 10 thus far from here. :(

My son went through Basic at Ft. Sill in the months leading into 9/11.
We went to his grad there a few weeks after.
He also is over there, but from Ft. Campbell now.
