I think my computer is possessed.....I'll be working, then it'll just shut down and restart....all of a sudden....is something overheating, is it a Windows flaw....HELP! It'll say "This system has recovered from a serious error" when it restarts....I'm lost....

Pentium 4 2.53 GHz with what looks to be like a nice fan (bought this computer from a user)
512 MB DDR PC2700 RAM
160 GB HD (2 x 80 GB)

How do I check the temperatures, besides going into the BIOS?

More suggestions:

  • Do an antivirus scan using the latest virus signatures, heuristics enabled, no files exempt from scanning (need antivirus software? Click here for permanently-free + good software)
  • Install a firewall if you have an always-on connection such as cable or DSL (need a firewall? click here for free basic ZoneAlarm)
  • Check your Event Viewer to see what it's got as the cause of the "serious error"
  • Make sure your CPU fan does actually run (duh)
  • Tell us what your power supply make/model is, what your memory modules' make & model are, what memory timings and voltages you're using, what other hardware is in the system, and your favorite salad dressing.
