The Xbox is AHEAD of the PC, not behind. If you don't understand this, then you obviously have done exactly 0 research.

No, you misundestand me. The Xbox plays games, and just happens to play movies and music. Now how does that equate to being a PC?

To back up my claims about the PS2 trying to be your new PC, well..

They sell these things for that system...

A Monitor
A VGA Adapter
A Mouse
A Keyboard

The PS2 has struck deals with AOL, Netscape, and Real to provide their services to PS2 users.

The PS2 calls itself a "computer entertainment system" and makes no bones about wanting it to provide a lot of the common PC uses.

What are you misunderstanding here?

In contrast the Xbox has gone out of it's way to avoid any and ALL things that could make one think it is even remotely trying to be a PC.

people say this then morons argue w/ it. It a damn fact! Microsoft doesnt want xbox (a loss per machine project) too cut into their hefty margins on operating systems in the computer sector. If people start buying xboxes instead of computers, microsoft will get smacked around hard (and never post a profit again!)

Why would any company not want their product to "succeed" (sell quickly)? Microsoft wants to push out as many of their xbox's out now so that software developers will see that the xbox is a platform worth developing for. The money lies in the software because Microsoft is losing money for each xbox made. More games sold equals more money. Xbox and Microsoft's OS/application departments are not competing against each other. Microsoft WANTS people to understand that their platform is NOT a replacement for the PC. That's why they cringe when people say, "Oh look, Intel CPU, Nvidia video chip, hard drive... hmmm what the hell, its a friggin PC!"
Its a game console strictly aimed at the game console market. It plays games, not help you type up a report or manage spreadsheets.
This is why people WILL NOT start to buy Xboxs instead of computers. In fact, it is usually Microsoft's OS that pushes sales of computers. Windows XP has helped sell a few more computers this quarter than the one before it.

Alright I'm listening

<< They sell these things for that system...

A Monitor

A PS2 monitor, never heard of it.

<< A VGA Adapter
A Mouse
A Keyboard
>>

As far as I know, these have only been released as part of the amateur
development kit for the PS2. There are only a few thousand of these
kits around as I recall. How convenient to cite something that is only available
in the Japanese market, and even then in very, very limited quantities.

<< The PS2 has struck deals with AOL, Netscape, and Real to provide their services to PS2 users. >>

Your point? MS will just as likely try to push MSN when they launch their
online network next year. Think we'd see keyboards out by then?

<< The PS2 calls itself a "computer entertainment system" >>

If the Xbox called itself a toaster, does it make it so?

<< and makes no bones about wanting it to provide a lot of the common PC uses. >>

List those common PC uses. If you say email and internet, I'd like to remind
you that Xbox will likely be able to provide those soon as well.

<< In contrast the Xbox has gone out of it's way to avoid any and ALL things that could make one think it is even remotely trying to be a PC. >>

It's only a matter of time...

I'm still listening if you got anything else to say.
