Just finished up Single Player last night.

 Awesome in almost every way, very entertaining game! I just wish it was longer, but what's that old adage? Always leave them wanting more.

Can't wait to try coop tonight!

I'm almost through the coop, and the one thing I don't think they're getting enough credit for is the absolute perfection of the difficulty curve. No two tests repeat the exact same techniques for solving them. None are really easy compared to the rest, none are too difficult, and it's never, ever frustrating. Theres no fake difficulty, no puzzles that are hard to solve due to technical issues like the camera or anything. You always get the feeling that you can solve the puzzle at hand if you just keep working at it, and eventually it'll all click. You never really get to that "oh fuck this game" point you get to with many puzzle games. Especially the coop puzzles, juggling two players, four portals and all these gels, bridges and tubes never gets to the point where it's too difficult or frustrating to be fun. Basically, there's no ocarina water temple where it could have been a game full of frustration, and that's just an incredible achievement. Bravo.

Actually I'd say Valve themselves underrated Portal. If they knew ahead of time the amount of fanfare the game would generate, do you honestly believe they would have bundled it for free with the Orange Box? Probably not. :hmm:

By the way, the title of this thread is a bit misleading. Last I checked you can't play custom maps on the console versions (would love to see it happen though!), so until that day comes, the PC version is still the best. ()🙂

Yeah that's true about Valve. They have admitted they never expected it to garner so much interest and praise. The Orange Box really was a ton of value.

And regarding the "best version" thing: The PS3 version also includes the PC version, so it does indeed include modding in that sense 😉 It does everything the PC version can (because it comes with it) PLUS MORE! :awe:

so, hows the PS3 online play working out ?

Now now 😉

It was pretty good before the PSN got hacked. Never got a chance to try out the joint PC/PSN Coop, maybe if the PSn ever gets fixed I will give it a go.

Played all the versions of portal and yes.
Count me +1 on the list of persons who think the PS3 is the best

Picked this up on the 360 today due to the $40 sale at Gamestop. I'm enjoying it so far, the writing is laugh out loud funny at times.

Yep, both in the single player and two player games. The humor and sarcasm are delicious. Just the icing on the cake to good puzzles.

Just now finished up the game on single player. I never played the first one, so a friend caught me up on the story before I started. The story telling itself was fantastic and I loved it all the way through, but I feel a bit disappointed that the puzzles weren't harder than they were.

Very few of them made me actually stop and look around for a couple of minutes before I got going, most of which were puzzles where I couldn't initially see the exit. I would typically find the exit and then work backwards on how I'd get there. Given how they design the rooms so that it's basically impossible to break the game, it's not hard to take a glance around and know what they are expecting of you.

With that said, I still had fun 100% of the way through, I just wish there were more than one or two moments throughout the game where I just sat back and smiled because I finally figured out the solution.

On to co-op I presume.
