Posted on the Bargains of the Tech...

PCMicrostore has a portable USB2 2.5 inch external case with MPEG4/Divx/Xvid decoder and TV out built in for $99 shipped. Also comes with remote.

Interesting concept... load movies/music onto drive, take with you... plug into someones TV or montior, and watch.

It's PAL and NTSC and 100-240 volts. Travel king.

Burn $100 on something I don't need?

Cannot do ext2fs, though. Piece of crap :)

My brother bought one of those under the "Ximeta Media Share" name. It works really well and the component out quality is very good. It's very small, just a little wider and about 1.5" longer than a 2.5" hard drive.

It was $69.99AR ($20MIR) at Fry's a little over 2 months ago. http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4328055

I wonder if they can make one that takes 3.5" disk drives. That would be amazing. OTOH, I have a Philips DVP-642 DVD player ($65 at Amazon) that plays back DivX and MPEG4 files off of data CDs or DVDs. No DVD / VCD mastering, just burn the data to a CD/DVD and shove it into the Philips DVP-642. I love that thing.

it is an interesting concept. stick a 20 or 40gb 2.5" hdd in there and just load it up with the movies you want and it'll be like one of those dvd divx players, but much smaller.
