WOW
I'll have pictures up tomorrow or this weekend. But first, I must say this laptop is everything that P1 said it was. Both Patrick and Ivan emailed me after Fedex's website showed that it got delivered. Patrick thanked me for the purchase, and Ivan wanted to know how I liked it. Really shows that they aren't BSing about their product, otherwise they'd have sold it and wouldn't followup with me if the product couldnt deliver. It is as advertised.
Screen flex... absolutely ZERO. I pushed really hard, with nothing. The carbon fiber holds it own spectacularly. Never did it on a T series so I don't know if it'd be the same... but at first I pressed lightly (on my Dell it'd have shown ripples), then surprised, I pushed harder and harder... finally if I push really hard, leverage it so my fingers are hitting it at a good angle, I can get it to have some ripple. To get it to ripple, you gotta push like you want to BREAK the machine. I'm afraid to press that hard, even for testing purposes.
The keyboard is awesome, very silent, and feels incredibly solid. If the IBM were a 100, this would be a 97. Touchpad isn't so great, doens't feel that smooth, my hands tend to get a little sweaty on laptops, and so the touchpad rubs and doens't work so great. It's fine since I use a mouse. Oh, and the arrow keys are a tad small (the up/down/left/right keys) for my taste. Otherwise the keyboard feels like a normal size one, with great response and feel.
The screen is just amazing, I've never seen anything so bright, and yet so clear. It's very sharp, as it's a 1400x1050.
Computer is amazingly fast, with the 7200 rpm drive. Reboots are like 20-30 seconds, I didn't time it, and I"ve only rebooted once so far. Portable ONe also loaded it up with no bloatware at all, these guys know what they are doing. I don't need to perform the reformat and reinstall of XP Pro at all. I'm good to go. Came with Nero, PowerDVD, and SystemSuite5 which is pretty nice (all in one suite of defragger, antivirus, firewall, system restore, etc).
But enough of the software side, back to the hardware.
The notebook just feels incredibly solid. The hinges are metal, just like the IBM. There are no creaks on the chassis at all. Very very very solid, heck it's carbon fiber casing, it's gonna be built incredibly solid. It's also a beauty I must admit. Looks quite professional and classy. I did get a Port Replicator, but I'm thinking I could have saved the $100 since all it does is free you the convenience of unplugging everything.... also got an extra AC Adapter.
Bluetooth seems to work, but have some trouble synching it with my Ipaq 2210. Figure I'll resolve that over this weekend.
I've been busy transferring my files and setting up with software so won't have a chance til this weekend to give a better review with pictures.... Also the laptop bag they give for free is quite excellent, better than the Port Air Laptop Case I had bought a few years ago, and it comes with a very nice laptop sleeve too.
The computer is practically silent when it's on, altho the fan does have the tendency to come on sporadically - but I guess that is bearable. Haven't had chance to burn anything yet, but so far, this laptop has met my high expectations, and especially with all the hype we've been giving it!
I think IBM has a contender!
Funny, another guy on CNET just gave a review of his MX, as he just got his laptop today too. And no, it doesn't seem like this one is a P1 employee
