i doubt it can even match the IBM T series, but good luck. I can't wait for your personal review and pics.

I'd buy the Fujitsu S6231, nicely configured with a 3-year warranty, for the same price from PortableOne instead.

In doing "due diligence" I found more user feedback.

actually at notebookreview.com they have a whole forum for the Portable One. Seems like I haven't read ANY bad reviews so far or any complaints... In fact people are ecstatic about their P1 machine.

check the link below, the screen is fantastic!

Yes, they are awesome with customer service. If you look at the forums I've listed, everyone is astounded by their service. Ivan is the one that runs Portable One, and he answers all your questions either on phone or email. When I email him, he or another P1 rep will answer back within an half hour. You should see the gmail conversation threads, they're HUUGE, and its just one day.

They are completely trustworthy, and it's validated by many many other users of the forums. In fact, some users have said that they often email Ivan for new product offerings/launches, etc, etc.

So in terms of reliability, I'd say they're better than anything I've seen (Dell, IBM), since you always talk to the same person... and they are extremely knowledgeable. Shoot an email to them, and they will respond in half hour or so. Keep in mind, that they are on PT time, so their hours are 11-8 for ET.

Also, it's great if you're outside of California, they offer free 2 day fedex shipping, and no tax (obviously if you're outside of Cali). I ordered on Monday, shipped on Tues with tracking #, getting it on Thurs, in like 12 hours!

I didn't mean to crap on your choice-- I replied from the first page. I think PortableOne is a great VAR, very reputable and their prices are great. I also think the machine you went with is very nice for the money.

I got the exact same T42 as the base level $1700 MX except mine has the Radeon 9600 and a little less ram and a slightly smaller disk for $1400. Since then the price has dropped to around $1200 with the introduction of the T43 and I would still choose the IBM over this brand just becuase of the graphics chipset all else being the same (and the IBM is cheaper to start and you can upgrade to the same specs for less).

EPP prices rock!

that may have been ture at one time, but that model itsn't availiable anymore, it was a really good deal. Also the stock HD was a 40GB 5400RPM HD, not the 60GB 7200 (7K60 I guess) you have now

I bought 5 of those for friends

Yeah, I know. Believe me, I understand I could have easily gotten a T42 for the $2200 I'm spending. I checked Fedex website, attempted delivery at noon today. Called Fedex and after work, I'm going to their local Fedex location here in NY to pick it up myself.

Also, not to crap on the T42 because it's a solid, reliable machine, but why not take a risk of perhaps getting something that's even better? I hear the MX laptop screen is the best non-glare (briteview type) screen out there, blows the IBM T away.

CNet User Review

Can we say employee raving up their own product???? :disgust:

edit There's been a few on there that are definitely put in by that company.

edit #2 So apparently the company took notice (Hi Ivan! :p) and asked me to stop "slandering" their name. I leave my previous words on here for clarification, and add my apology to the company. I would have to say that if a company is likely to take notice of this, then I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. In the same breath, I think all of you can understand why I thought what I did. Moving on.......... ;)

It sounds like a P1 employee, but for some reason, I have the feeling that this "user" review is dead on the money. It's now sitting at home, brother signed for it... ahhh, another hour or so and then I'm going home!

Oh, and I thought you were referring to me as a P1 employee for a second, until I saw the link to CNET. Until I saw that link, I was starting to get quite heated cuz I hate false accusations.... I actually signed up for notebookforums.com and started posting about the Portable One MX (pretty much just copied and pasted my first post from here at Anandtech), and a few hours later my post was deleted. I guess they thought I was an employee trying to hype up its product. I was tempted to send a flaming, scathing email to the administrator and to everyone in the forums, but then I realized, I had just made the account only minutes before my first post on the forum. Obviously it would cause a red flag to go up.... =P

Anyway, it's 3:51, and I'm waiting for 5pm to roll around. Technically most ppl at work stay until like 6 or 7 at least, and I'll probably look bad leaving early, but oh well?..=D

WOW :D

I'll have pictures up tomorrow or this weekend. But first, I must say this laptop is everything that P1 said it was. Both Patrick and Ivan emailed me after Fedex's website showed that it got delivered. Patrick thanked me for the purchase, and Ivan wanted to know how I liked it. Really shows that they aren't BSing about their product, otherwise they'd have sold it and wouldn't followup with me if the product couldnt deliver. It is as advertised.

Screen flex... absolutely ZERO. I pushed really hard, with nothing. The carbon fiber holds it own spectacularly. Never did it on a T series so I don't know if it'd be the same... but at first I pressed lightly (on my Dell it'd have shown ripples), then surprised, I pushed harder and harder... finally if I push really hard, leverage it so my fingers are hitting it at a good angle, I can get it to have some ripple. To get it to ripple, you gotta push like you want to BREAK the machine. I'm afraid to press that hard, even for testing purposes.

The keyboard is awesome, very silent, and feels incredibly solid. If the IBM were a 100, this would be a 97. Touchpad isn't so great, doens't feel that smooth, my hands tend to get a little sweaty on laptops, and so the touchpad rubs and doens't work so great. It's fine since I use a mouse. Oh, and the arrow keys are a tad small (the up/down/left/right keys) for my taste. Otherwise the keyboard feels like a normal size one, with great response and feel.

The screen is just amazing, I've never seen anything so bright, and yet so clear. It's very sharp, as it's a 1400x1050.

Computer is amazingly fast, with the 7200 rpm drive. Reboots are like 20-30 seconds, I didn't time it, and I"ve only rebooted once so far. Portable ONe also loaded it up with no bloatware at all, these guys know what they are doing. I don't need to perform the reformat and reinstall of XP Pro at all. I'm good to go. Came with Nero, PowerDVD, and SystemSuite5 which is pretty nice (all in one suite of defragger, antivirus, firewall, system restore, etc).

But enough of the software side, back to the hardware.

The notebook just feels incredibly solid. The hinges are metal, just like the IBM. There are no creaks on the chassis at all. Very very very solid, heck it's carbon fiber casing, it's gonna be built incredibly solid. It's also a beauty I must admit. Looks quite professional and classy. I did get a Port Replicator, but I'm thinking I could have saved the $100 since all it does is free you the convenience of unplugging everything.... also got an extra AC Adapter.

Bluetooth seems to work, but have some trouble synching it with my Ipaq 2210. Figure I'll resolve that over this weekend.

I've been busy transferring my files and setting up with software so won't have a chance til this weekend to give a better review with pictures.... Also the laptop bag they give for free is quite excellent, better than the Port Air Laptop Case I had bought a few years ago, and it comes with a very nice laptop sleeve too.

The computer is practically silent when it's on, altho the fan does have the tendency to come on sporadically - but I guess that is bearable. Haven't had chance to burn anything yet, but so far, this laptop has met my high expectations, and especially with all the hype we've been giving it!

I think IBM has a contender!

Funny, another guy on CNET just gave a review of his MX, as he just got his laptop today too. And no, it doesn't seem like this one is a P1 employee ;)

Hey I'm going to try to do a comparison with the T42 this weekend (hopefully if my friend will allow me to use his T42).

I tend to believe it could be as well.

It's a white-book reseller vs ThinkPad.....

I tend not to believe that the owner/salesguys would send emails to the customer with the exception of automated form letters.

WackyDan,

Email Sales@portableone.com

Either ask for Patrick or Ivan. Ivan is actually on vacation until Monday with family (he told me this because we were in an email exchange and wanted to inform me before he left).

Go to http://www.resellerratings.com/seller949.html and read the ratings.

Look, I know I probably sound like a "marketing ploy" but I'm not. I am honest to God a 22 year old NYU Stern School of Business graduate. I work in New York in healthcare finance, and am going to switch careers into equity research in June. I have absolutely no affiliation to Portable One. I didn't find out about them until I was reading a Latitude D610 review, and an user comment said that he had bought the D610 and returned it for a Portable One MX. That's where I was first introduced to Portable One.

Also, Portable One is Fujitsu's largest North American distributor. Trust me, email them, see for yourself if they won't respond to you within half hour during business hours.

The original CNET review is gone, as well as the one deleted from notebookforums.com . The consensus grows, it seems.

The fact that the company closely watches the effects of these posts makes your conclusions even more understandable. Let's take a look at this thread... a rabid consumer just dying to get the word out about a product from a little-known or unknown company, urging others to take the plunge basically, even BEFORE receiving the product. I doubt you had anything to fear from a vague quasi-legal threat.
