hey all, sorry for the long delay about the T series vs. MX comparison. I promise to have something up very soon, if you can wait until next week sometime.

Until then, hope you can hang tight for a bit.

Well, the ranting and raving was before actually having the computer, and the specs do look pretty nice

rx - thanks for the review

Hmmm... Only things I would pick at would be that the IBM/Lenovo has two wireless ant's for 802.11 - the one that gets the strongest signal wins... and that is why the T beat the MX..

Support... Lenovo is using IBM's call center in Atlanta, GA for North American support.... Same support as it always has been.... So I would error on the side of IBM/Lenovo.

I agree 😉

In the comparison between the PortableOne MX and IBM T43, you mention that you used the IBM Employee Purchase Program (EPP) discount. Excuse my ignorance, but how/where would I take advantage of this (if at all possible). Thanks in advance.

You need to know someone who works for IBM. They are allowed to make about 25 purchases per year, and are allowed to let others purchase merchandise. I believe the typical EPP savings on Thinkpads are about 33% or so.

FYI the portableOne MX is an Asus M3Np which is a discontinued model. $2200 for it, no matter what is inside it is ludicrous. I just bought an Asus barebones M3N on fleabay, put a 1.4ghz banias, 80gb Hitachi 5400rpm drive, 512mb ddr, cdrw/dvd, and intel 2100B - not quite the P1 MX specs in the review but close enough (you would be hard pressed to tell a difference in average usage). I paid $700 tax/shipping included for everything. Granted I don't have the 3 year warranty and I had to put my components in myself (some might consider that an advantage), but I did pay $1500 less. I love the machine but I would be unhappy if I paid much over $1000 for it.
