I've had this player for a few weeks now. It comes in an unbranded (but still colorful) box containing the player, an AC adapter, earbuds, and some documentation.
As far as sound quality goes I'd have to say it's a notch down from my old Panasonic Portable CD player, but is still pretty good!
It plays regular audio CDs fine, except for an annoying pause between tracks. This usually isn't an issue, but some CDs have continuous music between tracks and when you hear a couple of seconds of silence that doesn't belong it just doesn't sound right.
Of course, the main attraction to the player is its ability to play mp3 data discs...I've burned several such discs and all have worked fine for me in the player. I've only tried using CDRs (not CDRWs) and have heard that supposedly CDRWs worked in earlier releases of the player, but not in the more recent (something about the company using a new laser). Again, I haven't tried CDRWs yet so I really can't comment.
The sound quality for mp3s (I listened to 128 and 160 kb/s files) sounded about as good as the regular audio CDs I put in the player. As for as navigating between tracks, that's a little difficult! If you have 150 mp3s burned on the CD the player will recognize them as tracks "1" through "150" (not by file name or anything). You can rapidly advance through the tracks by holding down the next button so if you're able to remember roughly where a song is on your CD you'll be able to find it eventually. Also, the player has a number of "modes" built in with the most important being:
All - Plays all mp3 files in order they are burned to the CD
Dir - Sorts mp3 files by directory
Rand - Plays files in random order
Re: Skip Protection:
I haven't tested the ESP with regular audio CDs, but with mp3s you WON'T be able to make it skip! Well, eventually you might, but it would take a lot of shaking. I believe they claim 50 seconds ESP.
I could probably add more, but since it's 5 AM right now I'd better call it quits for tonight. If you have any questions please post them here (rather than emailing me). If I see it I'll try to respond or I'm sure there are others here with the player that can give feedback.
