I posted this in Peripherals a few days ago without response.

After trouble with a memory stick on my last campout, I'm looking for an alternative to simply buying/carrying several memory cards on extended trips. I ran across I/O Magic Digital Photo Library which looks promising, and supports memory sticks, which I need for my sony.

I see its a rebadged VOSONIC X'S-DRIVE VP2030 (or vice versa) which seems to be a UK brand. They also have VOSONIC X'S-DRIVE II VP2060 which features an LCD display and USB 2.0 interface. Apparently you can even get the X drive 1 without a hardrive and add your own 2.5" internal hardrive. There is also the VOSONIC V-MP3H which includes some playback and viewing options as well.

I can get the I/O magic Digital photo Library 20GB model for $179 US, the Vosonic models all look expensive and overseas. Is there something else I can use instead?

Well it looks like you answered your own question.

Not really, actually, I was looking for input from someone who actually uses some form of portable storage for their digital camera.

Don't many MP3 players also double as data storage? I don't have one but i'm looking at the IRiver stuff and i'm pretty sure that you can just slap some digitial pics as data on the player and carry it around. Something like that anyways.

He wants to insert his memory cards directly onto the unit and save them to the storage hard drive that way. Not through the use of any computer or other devices, as it would defeat the purpose of his intentions. As far as I know, only the Archos Jukebox multimedia can do this with CompactFlash, but it's a bit pricey especially if you have no desire to use the native multimedia features.

vegetation, you stated it exactly right. I have thought about a PDA, but they're not much different than using the camera and a handful of memory sticks. I've also thought about a laptop or building an XPC, and those would work fine when I'm using my motorhome, but more than half of our camping/recreation involves remote areas and tents, so it has to be a small, portable device. I like the price/capacity of the I/O magic unit, and have since found the Vosonic X2 20GB drive available for $190. For 20 GB's of portable storage, it seems to be the ticket.
